Auto wiper sensor

hi, was driving in the rain today (like the rest of the UK) ha, and set my auto wipers but they seemed to just be normal intermediate like every 30sec or so and not as and when detecting depending on rain conditions, my question is could a faulty clock spring make auto wipers not work correctly, also my auto lights don't come on when really overcast and gloomy but do when it's dark, could this also be due to clock spring as my last RR SPORT lights came on as soon as bit gloomy.

The auto lights is just normal for these cars unfortunately.

I guess its vaguely possible the clock spring could cause the wiper issue.

What happens when the lever is up 1 position from off (auto) and its NOT raining ?

Hi Andy, it's just that I was getting a bit sensitive, I think I was getting auto light envy when driving past merc & BMWs with there's on. Big Cry But around 7.30pm on a dark and gloomy/rainy evening they finally came on. Thumbs Up As for the wiper even when not raining 1 click up (auto) they just work like intermediate approx 2 or 3 sweeps every 30sec or so.

It is a while since I owned an L320 RRS but on the wiper stalk do you have a second ring that looks like you can vary the interval between sweeps? In "auto" mode this will also vary the "sensitivity" of when the wipers will come too IIRC. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

On mine with auto wipers the ring adjusts the REAR wiper delay which is useful.

I guess when the car doesn't have working auto wipers it adjusts the front intermittent delay.

The car sounds faulty.
Either faulty sensor or not configured for auto wipers.
But get the clock spring fixed first just incase

I just purchased a iiD tool (non Bluetooth) from eBay, I'll have a look and see if that confirms anything, If tried the wiper adjuster but doesn't seem to make no difference Thumbs Up

The IID tool will have to be matched to your VIN first for it to work properly. Of course you may have done that and still found no alteration? Also ensure you have the latest software by downloading to IID tool via a PC or Mac. John

Hi johnski, not received iiD tool yet, should arrive sat, I've emailed GAP and they have provided a link for me to do owner & vin transfer, I'm really not the best with computers & software gadgets but hopefully I will get my head round it, with the iiD can I alter the ride height, my car at normal height is 200mil each corner, can I reduce to 170/180,

You can change the ride height permanently if you wish but don't forget to get a 4 wheel alignment done at the new height. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I have a scanned article from Land Rover Owner magazine about a German aftermarket suspension adjusting system (they take it up above, as well as down, beyond the normal limits) in my galleries here

Bear in mind that the item is getting on for 9 years old so prices and availability may be different. The car tested was a Disco3 but they have the same systems as RRS1 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Out of curiosity where are you taking those measurement's from? 200mm is not right, they should be something like 461mm + or - 12mm Front and 465mm + or - 13mm Rear in standard height. Not sure they are the exact figures but not far out.

The measurement is taken from the Centre of the Wheel/Cap to lower edge of Wheel Arch if I remember correctly.

Cheers
Col

Hi col, I read somewhere to take measurements from top of wheel rim to bottom centre wheel arch.

Thanks for that, I wouldn't have remembered to have the tracking/alignment checked. Embarassed
I need to drop the access height, if possible, about 50mm+, to give better access for a disabled person that struggles to get in and out at present access height setting, if I forget to lower they have no chance. Whistle John
