Noisy steering......?

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I can't seem to find the thread, ok I'm driving a 2006 tdv6 and was fine then one morning I get in to drive and on starting the motor there is a whining/rumbling noise.....then when I start to drive the steering is heavy and as I get to full lock at lower (roundabouts) speeds it gets juddery and the noise increases...
As the speed increases the noise reduces and the steering get a little lighter.
I've checked the fluid and it's at max level and it's nice and clean, the belt is at the correct tension and all the pulleys are free and running smoothly....
I would really love to know what it could be as there was no warning at all it just changed over night, it seems to me that it's the pump but I've never know a pump to change to. Go from perfect to nor working without being driven....!!
I hope that someone can point me in the right direction, thanks in advance Reg

Malaysia

I had the same issue on my Freelander 2. Turned out to be a blocked filter at the bottom of the power steering fluid reservoir.
The filter cannot be removed for cleaning and the only solution was to replace the entire reservoir, which wasn't too expensive IIRC.

Here's what the workshop manual has to say (not that it is always very useful) Laughing
