Radio/CD player issues

2006 Sport HSE. Over the last 3 years I've had intermittent loss of sound from the audio system. First radio only but CD would work, then it would fix itself.

Latterly it has been permanent no Radio or CD or Aux output and no longer intermittent, now permanent.

I looked up on the net and saw a way to make adjustments on the radio by holding the right button in - yes it took me to the menu but on exiting the radio now stays powered (but not on) along with the sat nav screen even after car locked. So I've removed the fuse for the time being.

My local dealer is Harwoods, and I'm presuming that there is some sort of software related issue, so it ought to go to a main dealer for reprogramming resolving.

Though I bought the car from them, they are an abysmal dealer, and I stopped using them about 5 years ago and gave servicing to Crawley, but they have now been bought out by Harwoods so no way I want to use them. I did give them a chance this morning and rang up to see if they had ever heard of a similar problem to this. They said no, but book it in. I said no, I'd rather deal with a dealership that has come across this type of problem - in the past they have dropped the ball on too many things for me and I'm not letting them loose at £100s per hour to find the issue.

So I have two questions,

1. Does anyone have any DIY advice for a fix for this?

2. Does anyone have any recommendations for somewhere to take this to get it fixed. I live in the Chipstead/Reigate area of Surrey.

Thanks for any assistance, I guess I should have dealt with this before but whenever it went to the dealer it was working fine so not fault found as they say.

Yes, tried that a few times, and long disconnections, all to no avail

If everything had gone down the first time would of said the amp was faulty but with it being radio only can only think it's the head unit and only way to check that is to try another unit. Might be worth checking connections, again wouldn't explain the faults in the different modes but it costs nothing to check.. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Thanks, I haven't got access to another head unit so can't try that.

I think that the head unit has got 'bricked' some how and needs to be updated or something like that. Or maybe it's getting a bad message from another component (to be fair i don't understand these things) I just have a sixth sense that it's probably ok though.

I just don't have much faith in my local dealer though.
