Wales 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Lux Sumatra Black
Car passed MOT, don't think much of loan vehicle.

My car passed its MOT today, no advisories, and also had its annual service, (had driven 14800 miles) and some other special work. Very Happy The service cost with MOT 688.21p : Big Cry Total bill with other work 927.48 inc VAT. Is that expensive for 48 month 64k service? (Car only done 41k miles) Castrol Edge fully synthetic Oil was 106.94 Censored Big Cry all genuine LR parts used.
It did as usual come back washed, hoovered, valet and tyres blacked at no charge. Very Happy

I was loaned for the last three days a brand new LR Discovery Sport with only 89 miles on clock at pick up.
Just wanted to report on first impressions and wasn't impressed at all. This was the 7 seat version, but it was the amount of plastic everywhere that put me off, it had the new 8" Screen entertainment centre and latest gadgets on it, but it just felt so cheap and well....er nasty.
I was quite surprised at this, and the full pananoramic glass roof, I found just heated up the car to quick and served no real useful purpose. The seats were leather but completely plastic backs and the sides of front seats. There was decent amount of rear room if rear seats were slid back, but that just lost rear two seats space and no luggage room. All in all a very poor drive, even with the nine speed box, the Eco button is a joke and complete waste of time, the on/off ignition was the first thing I disabled as it didn't recover quickly enough for me.
As a loan car, it was great to have, the new engine sounds nice but is all noise and nothing else, I did get an indicated 38.9 mpg so not that much better than the V6 3 litre I have! But this put me completely off the new range and look of Disc Sport, even the rear lights look cheap with red plastic covers over bulbs/LEDs, so Mrs will have to go continue looking. Embarassed Wink John

Makes you wonder how awful the other "family sized" small SUV's are then because DiscoSport outsells and comes top of every group test of this class of SUV in the motoring mags. I see in the latest TG magazine that the F Pace 3.0d S gets top slot in their group test, ahead of the SQ5 Plus which is then ahead of the Porsche Macan S and the GLE 350d 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Fuji White

I got 8 litres of castrol edge delivered yesterday for a 15 plate Vw transporter sport line that I'm servicing today & it was 30+vat.so with the price of filters & technicians wages taken off they make 500 on a service.I had mine serviced 3 week ago (foc) & they called me to say everything was fine apart from when the technician took it out to warm the oil up he noticed some wheel wobble & asked if I wanted wheels balancing,I have never noticed it even at speeds exceeding 70mph.so I took all the wheels of last week & none were out of balance. They wanted 96 to balance 4 wheel the robbing Censored ,,makes me wonder if they just makes things up to get money out of customers because they were doing service FOC.

Well said DM Bow down

I can't help feeling that if LR stuck "Range Rover" on front of DS instead of "Discovery" and another 20k some people on here might be a little kinder about it Whistle

I completely agree Muddy, Discovery Sport is not meant to be a luxury SUV, it is meant to be an unpretentious "utility" family SUV to replace the very successful Freelander, it isn't meant to compete with Range Rover badged models. Also I suspect that what was given out as a loaner was the basic or SE version not the rather nicer HSE or HSE Luxury which is as well fitted out as any RRS. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

In latest copy of What Car Magazine, the Discovery Sport came first ahead of the new Jaguar F-Pace and the BMW X3 in the first UK test of the new Jaguar F-Pace car, main complaint of Jaguar was the hard ride was not comfortable and on 19" alloys, Fairly noisy by comparison, steering wheel buttons are low rent, speedo cover very flimsy, no lumbar support and manual seats, and that slow to respond InControl nav and sound system (same in DS) which requires upgrading to the pro version for an extra 2280, and the Panoramic roof an extra 1200 (standard on DS) After one year they reckon the F-Pace would have retained 78% of purchase price against the LR Discovery Sport which should hold 83% in first year. (Company car tax goes up each year for next four years to 455 per month for business users). The LR also scores the best on safety and crash results, one star above the Jag. (Could be because of the lack of outside pedestrian airbags on bonnet etc?).
The F-Pace is the dearest to run and Service over three years, it obtained 4 stars, LR DS 5 Stars and X3 only got 3 Stars. Question Being aimed at same SUV market the Jag F-Pace didn't fare as well as the LR DS, a surprise to some but good for Discovery Sport owners, just hasn't got the performance though of the others. John

So mine was around 152 more, allowing for inflation etc, I cannot now say if the amount of bill was expensive as I thought, also depends how long ago that service was, and what part of the Country service was carried out?

It did of course include the following, fuel filter, Oil drain plug, engine oil filter, engine air filter, screen wash and Carbon cabin filter which comes to 119.74 +VAT plus Environmental charges and DCML Insurance recharge (whatever that is) and 54.85 for MOT on top. The already mentioned Oil at 106.94, and labour charges.

Plus the charge for additional work I mentioned (small dent on wheel-arch) for 230 odd. So service on its own was 688.21 John
