My car passed its MOT today, no advisories, and also had its annual service, (had driven 14800 miles) and some other special work. The service cost with MOT 688.21p : Total bill with other work 927.48 inc VAT. Is that expensive for 48 month 64k service? (Car only done 41k miles) Castrol Edge fully synthetic Oil was 106.94 all genuine LR parts used.

I got 8 litres of castrol edge delivered yesterday for a 15 plate Vw transporter sport line that I'm servicing today & it was 30+vat.so with the price of filters & technicians wages taken off they make 500 on a service.I had mine serviced 3 week ago (foc) & they called me to say everything was fine apart from when the technician took it out to warm the oil up he noticed some wheel wobble & asked if I wanted wheels balancing,I have never noticed it even at speeds exceeding 70mph.so I took all the wheels of last week & none were out of balance. They wanted 96 to balance 4 wheel the robbing ,,makes me wonder if they just makes things up to get money out of customers because they were doing service FOC.

What you have to remember, is that the service dept pays for the big fancy showroom, and tea/coffee/biscuits |

I completely agree Muddy, Discovery Sport is not meant to be a luxury SUV, it is meant to be an unpretentious "utility" family SUV to replace the very successful Freelander, it isn't meant to compete with Range Rover badged models. Also I suspect that what was given out as a loaner was the basic or SE version not the rather nicer HSE or HSE Luxury which is as well fitted out as any RRS. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

In latest copy of What Car Magazine, the Discovery Sport came first ahead of the new Jaguar F-Pace and the BMW X3 in the first UK test of the new Jaguar F-Pace car, main complaint of Jaguar was the hard ride was not comfortable and on 19" alloys, Fairly noisy by comparison, steering wheel buttons are low rent, speedo cover very flimsy, no lumbar support and manual seats, and that slow to respond InControl nav and sound system (same in DS) which requires upgrading to the pro version for an extra 2280, and the Panoramic roof an extra 1200 (standard on DS) After one year they reckon the F-Pace would have retained 78% of purchase price against the LR Discovery Sport which should hold 83% in first year. (Company car tax goes up each year for next four years to 455 per month for business users). The LR also scores the best on safety and crash results, one star above the Jag. (Could be because of the lack of outside pedestrian airbags on bonnet etc?).

So mine was around 152 more, allowing for inflation etc, I cannot now say if the amount of bill was expensive as I thought, also depends how long ago that service was, and what part of the Country service was carried out? It did of course include the following, fuel filter, Oil drain plug, engine oil filter, engine air filter, screen wash and Carbon cabin filter which comes to 119.74 +VAT plus Environmental charges and DCML Insurance recharge (whatever that is) and 54.85 for MOT on top. The already mentioned Oil at 106.94, and labour charges. Plus the charge for additional work I mentioned (small dent on wheel-arch) for 230 odd. So service on its own was 688.21 John RRS MY12 SDV6 HSE. Sumatra Black/Ebony & Walnut + Dynamic Pack, + Cold Climate Pack + Memory Pack, Digital TV/DVD, Premium Leather, Cornering Lights, Cooler/Fridge Box, & most Options. |
