Road Tax Cost

I cannot believe that just because the car has 6g/km extra emmisions, I've got 230g emmisions against the slightly lower powered model with 224g, the tax on mine is £500.00 PA against £275.00 PA.
I know some models are more, but there doesn't seem any logic to how the charges are set, depending on how you drive can alter your emmisions, being in a high gear is better than running around in a lower gear. I think VW had the right idea for their customers.
Don't get me wrong, I love my car and enjoy every moment in it, if I run on gas would that bring down the price does anyone know? Just wondering. Whistle Whistle John

There is a big shock coming next April. Seen as the government are loosing out on all these low tax bracket cars, the are changing the goalposts Twisted Evil
It will no longer be an emissions tax Shocked If you buy a car over 40k list price, then for the first 5 years you pay £475 per year. Whistle So if you are thinking of getting a new car next year, get it before April 17. I'm not sure what the current tax is on a RRS2. But this will effect all marques with the exception of the cheaper cars on the market. No incentive to save the planet either by buying an electric motor, if they cost over 40k, then the tax is the same. £475 per year. Year 6 it drops to £140. How the hell do they get away with such proposals ? If this has a big effect on sales of cars over 40k, then i can see an eruption in the car market.

I'll be keeping this car a bit longer then. It will be some drop in a Road Tax from my current £500 I paid in full and not 1 or 6 monthly more expensive ways, and get a few extra years out of it before getting a new one. Prices that drop quickly after two years on certain models will help boast sales with lower tax.

The Governments reasoning is completely wrong on current and suggested new scheme. The London scheme currently to keep out polluting lorries is to be extended by the new Mayor to cars that emit over a certain level of emmisions, they haven't said what that will be yet, but sure to catch out most of Londons owners of larger cars etc. Next will be extra tax on Gas using cars, they haven't jumped on that one yet.

Since getting rid of the Tax discs their own figures has shown a big jump in people driving without Road Tax/fund licences, and many don't get caught as many towns etc don't have ANR cameras to pick them up, and I bet that means they aren't insured? John

Should be good for 2nd hand car values then if the new tax regime applies only to "new" cars. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I think the lower road tax only applies to vehicles registered after April 2017. Life's too short to drive boring cars !
