Had a Manual DS

today as a courtesy car whilst Guy Salmon fixed a broken bracket on front bumper. Hated every minute of driving it. Plasticky, squeaky, gutless, no comfort, crap driving position, couldn't connect to iPhone, crap sound system.

The only thing I would love to have on my RRS is auto rear door opening and if the guy whose doing the modules would just answer my PM Censored Censored I might just have it if available for a 2011

I had logic7 on RRS and not noticed any reduction in quality on HSE DS - in fact I can use the subwoofer without it rattling the boot Rolling Eyes

No problem with Sony Xperia smartphone connection Thumbs Up

Agree ride is harsher but with 19" wheels no worse than 20" on previous RRS

I can not believe anyone thinks DS is expensive for what they are - RRS2 is daylight robbery Shocked Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

Both the DS I drove had small wheels (I remember because high tyre sidewalls meant I didn't have to worry about kerbing) and my 2013 RRS with 20" had waaaaay superior ride quality. No comparison, at least 2-3 leagues difference. The engine didn't need to be pushed hard to experience lack of refinement. It was noisy and tractor like at idle and at any RPM. Again, all expected at the price. Muddy I think your BE is a distant memory and you aren't comparing right Laughing Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

You're obviously not driving on Yorkshire pot holed cart tracks Laughing

Last week I had to move a family members Nissan joke to get my DS out - I sat waiting for the tractor I could hear then realised it was the engine - now that was awful. Made me love the DS even more Thud

I've had some of the worst and best LR vehicles over the last 16 years but the DS is top of the bunch so far on value for money and does what it says on the tin Bow down Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Don't know much about Yorkshire roads but trust me there are craters with sharp edges around here Sad Driving into the side of a London bus in the next lane to avoid a pothole is not unheard of. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

If you have a One Piece Powered Tailgate it will Work. If you have a Two Piece Tailgate it will Not Work.

Apologies to Ned for going of topic.

Australia

I have one as a loaner at the moment whilst my 2 month old RRS is in for warranty work.

They gave me a DS TD4 HSE. It is a real come down from the RRS, but here in Australia is is also $110k cheaper so its all relative.

Car has lots of technology functions but is way below the RRS for luxury and comfort. Seat position is not so good but then I did struggle for the first few weeks with the RRS before I eventually found the right setting.

The engine is a real diesel chugger, seems very rough compared to the SDV6 or SDV8 but it is a 4 cylinder. Good pick up when it gets going but terrible throttle lag from stand still.

I suppose comparisons with the RRS are futile as it is a completely different vehicle. The DS is the Freelander replacement and in that respect it is a vast improvement over the previous model. 2016 Range Rover Sport SDV8 HSE Dynamic (Indus Silver/Santorini Black Pano Roof, Ebony/Cirrus leather, custom grey Style 508 alloys)

I've owned FL1s and D2s so I know all about unrefined LRs but I had 2 FL2s before 2 RRSs and the jump in refinement from FL to RRS was massive as expected but so was the price Rolling Eyes

The jump from MY10 to MY13 RRS was noticeable but not huge Confused

The difference between FL2 and DS is again massive so I can see LRs point that it's not a new FL but a new model and despite my earlier complaining I now see the price jump is justified Embarassed

The drop from MY13 RRS to MY16 DS is not that bad imho but as said they are different beasts and comparing is pointless due to price etc but strangely the DS does have a bigger boot and more rear legroom which I prefer Cool

A fairer comparison would be a Q5 or X3 and on that note I'm off to enjoy my DS while searching for a restored Series 2a with the money I've saved to keep it company Thumbs Up Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Can't argue on the saving and space points Thumbs Up

Good luck with your search. Deep down you know an original Series (if such a thing exists) may be a step up from the DS in refinement Laughing
