RRS TDV8 issues - advice needed

Apologies if this is posted in wrong place, new to here but need advice/guidance.

I have a RRS TDV8 on an 08 plate with c80k miles on the clock. Recently had alternator replaced, but I've got a series of electrical issues that started around the time the alternator starting playing up that I was hoping would be fixed with it's replacement. Not to be, so looking for advice/help on what a solution might be.

The issues I'm getting are :

- CD freezes after 3-5 mins every time I go anywhere, lots of invalid disc messages, and have to take CD in/out then it plays again for a bit then freezes, so not the CDs.
- random error messages pop up on dash when I start it up, but go away once I've got moving. Have had HDC error, front parking sensors not working, rear parking sensors not working, ACC inactive, bonnet open, suspension fault, low coolant, etc.
- alarm goes off randomly, usually shortly after I've parked up, for no real reason
- rear passenger door won't open on the blipper or using central locking

Basically lots of annoying little things that make going anywhere more of a pain than it needs to be. They all started around the same time, a few days before I needed the alternator replaced, so I'm thinking they were all brought on by my alternator issue, but surely a new one should have sorted it out?

Will be taking it up to local LR specialist to be looked at, but before I do I wanted to be armed with some knowledge on what might be causing it and/or how to fix it to give them a bit of guidance.

Does anyone reckon these issues are all connected and are battery/electric related? Anyone experienced these issues before? And any advice on how to resolve much appreciated. Thanks.

CD - I'd try a cleaning CD, but wouldn't hold my breath.
Random error messages - usually a sign of a battery neraring death. Replace with a new one.
Alarm - might be the battery as above, but you may suspect there's some glitch in the electrical system...
Rear door - replace the lock assembly, a DIY job.

Most of the above topics are actually covered in the forum. Regards etc.,

Wojtek

Check your brake light lamps are both working, often a blown lamp can throw up lots of alarms and warnings. Also carry out a a hard reset - there are loads of instructions how to do it if you use the search function 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Alarm going off is probably relating to the bonnet open message.
If you look at the drivers side bonnet latch there is two wires coming from the sensor attached to the bottom of the catch. If you pull this and bridge the connection then leave for a few days to see if this solves it, if so replace sensor.
A paper clip works well to bridge gap.

Bonnet open message/alarm sounding is almost certainly the bonnet catch switch. Cheap and easy to fix.

The others could be due to the battery being poorly. If the alternator was dying it probably damaged the battery too. Be worth fitting a new, fully charged battery.

The low coolant message is classic early RRS/D3. It's caused by the float in the expansion bottle sinking. Relatively easy and cheap to fix - needs a new expansion bottle. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Many of your symptoms are are commonly associated with voltage issues, and others (alarm, bonnet catch, door) are linked by the BCM (Body Control Module) which can be upset by electrical noise on the brake circuits, so as said above, keep the battery and alternator in mind and consider changing the brake bulbs and switch. My bet is on the battery as above. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Thanks for all the feedback, really appreciate it. Thought I'd share the outcome based on the advice given :

Hard reset - I did a hard reset and that seems to have cleared the frequent/random error messages I was getting (1 week on and haven't had any since so fingers crossed). It also seems to have sorted out the CD player freezing issue, for the moment anyway.

Alarm Going Off randomly - definitely a faulty sensor on the bonnet catch, so booked in to have that replaced.

Door Lock Issue - still happening, so probably not electrical like i thought, so booked in to have that replaced.

Will get them to check battery when it's in and if anything dodgy will have it replaced too. Hopefully then everything will be tickety-boo again and I can go back to enjoying driving it without these niggly issues.

Thanks again guys. RRS TDV8 2008

Checked the bonnet catch/sensor and definitely a faulty sensor on the bonnet catch, so booked in to have that replaced.

Also need a new door lock mechanism as it's sticking.

Hard rest fixed most of the other issues.

Thanks for the advice, really helpful! RRS TDV8 2008

Thanks, yep mine was replaced with a Denso alternator, so all good. Hard reset seems to have sorted most if it. Few other bits still to sort (see other post) RRS TDV8 2008

Thanks, checked them, they all seem fine. A hard reset seemed to sort most of it out though, rest is genuine stuff that needs replacing (see other post) RRS TDV8 2008
