Looking at a 2005 RRS HSE next week, any tips?

Hi folks, just joined the forum and was hoping some of you clued up owners may be able to offer a little advice for what to look for when buying a used RRS.

It's a 2005 HSE 2.7 diesel model. It's from a small used car dealer, who performs a full check in their workshop and also puts 12 months MOT on the car.

I was really just wondering if there were any things in particular that I should be looking out for or checking that are obvious and may cost a few quid to fix in the near future before buying?

I'm having to travel a couple hundred miles to view the car so not got the benefit of having a mechanic to look at it at home first.

Also, even though the dealer says he does a rigorous check of the vehicle (and is willing to email me the report), do you think it's worth paying a third party to perform a 118 point check on the vehicle first?

Any help or advice much appreciated guys, thanks.

Hi Peachy, thanks a lot for the link to that PDF, I took most of it and added it on as notes for the mechanic I paid to inspect the vehicle today.

He explained that it is in very good condition, especially for it's age, and that it was mechanically great.

The only thing I am concerned about now is the cambelt. The guy selling the car is going to contact the previous owner to find out if the cambelt has in fact been changed or not, as it doesn't seem to be mentioned on the service history.

If it's not been changed, I will probably not be buying it until it has been done.

The seller also advised me that to purchase the kit costs around £130, and to have it fitted will cost around £180 (non Land Rover dealer), does that sound about right?

Also, do you think it's fair to ask the seller to do this before I buy the car, or should it be something I should be expecting to pay for on top?

Any feedback appreciated guys, thanks.

Poland 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Buckingham Blue

You ALWAYS change the belt in a pre-owned car on purchase. Always.

Who is going to pay for that is a totally different thing. Regards etc.,

Either way it should have been done due to age or mileage - AGE being the decisive factor on this occasion. If it cannot be proven to have been done - personally I would have doubts. These motors are money pits when things go wrong - vote with your head not your heart Crying or Very sad Anybody can spend a few quid cleaning a Sport ready for sale - its the years of loved & cared ownership that make the difference IMO Rolling Eyes
