Looking to buy

Morning all,

I am looking to buy a RRS between an 07-09 (dependent on budget) not really fussed if its a V6 or a V8

I have read stories about various problems and should look into a warranty to cover any issues, however my question is

would a RRS of that age already had it's 'issues' ?

thanks

Jason

Can you buy warranty on a 8+ year old car? I like my 07 RRS, purchased last year with 89k miles without warranty. It would be helpful if you can do some of the repair and maintenance work. As it is a high end vehicle, you will pay top price on any repair work.

The AA do a Gold warranty on cars up to 10 years old or 100k miles.

I had an AA warranty on mine and they were very good, I had a steering rack, brake master cylinder and compressor off them, they paid for labour too.

I had to pay for diagnosis but in the grand scheme of things I think I got off pretty lightly.

I would highly recommend them to anyone, there was no arguing or dancing around looking for ways out, I had an issue and they sorted it.

Nice to see the AA warranty is useful. I'm off to see a TDv6 2008 HSE today and the AA gold warranty is something they offer.

As you said you want to buy in between 07-09 you should extra take care about the condition and warranty.

You really have to question the value of a warranty within the first 12 months of buying an older used car from a used car dealer.

My 08 TDV8 (which i bought a week ago) has 126k miles on it and I can't get a warranty unless I'm willing to pay 50% of all claim values.

With the Consumer Rights Act being the way it is I could hand the car back within 6 months if there were any major failures and the dealer would be legally obliged to give a full refund.

Admittedly it would never be as simple as that and there would undoubtedly be some argy-bargy but if you were to push it, this is the outcome you would get... eventually.

Personally its only the thought of a major failure such as a blown turbo which concerns me. Electrickery and wear and tear items are par for the course with age.

As a side note I just serviced my father in laws T4 Transporter 2.5 TDI. Its on 306k miles and is a joy to work on. Very little in the way of electrics or complex parts. A third of a million miles with no work ever needed other than the odd suspension bush and discs/pads... Do they make em like that anymore??...
