It is what is known as waterfall lighting (which is much better in the BMW X5) and alters brightness with the dash control for the instrument lighting. Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment. |

It should go of when you turn the lights of. In my old X5 you could not see the beam (similar to a laser pen) but you could see where it landed around the gear lever and ash tray area. Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment. |

Just been out to "fiddle" and Biggles and Martin are right, it is the "pool" light round the selector and ashtray.................. seems a bit feeble and pointless and it does vary with the dash lighting intensity. Cheers guys 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Our 1998 BMW 5 series had this and while you didn't notice the light being emitted from the mirror, it did highlight all the heating controls and stereo etc at night. It worked well - much better than the RRS. Matt

Yes, that light confused me for a while also. Evidently the ergonomic "scientists" (and these auto interior design PHDs DO take themselves awfully seriously!) thought that diffuse LED was necessary to subtly illuminate the center console. And boy, is it subtle! -QM |

I have a similar weak ray of light on my XKR, it is on all the time at night and does indeed just give off enough light to illuminate the centre console. We are all driving Fords, so prob same feature

My brother's AM DB9 has it too, infact the front courtesy light fitting is exactly the same as the one in my Sport. Anybody owning a Volvo or a Lincoln here have the same fitting?!!!! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
