Hi All

Test drove a 2012 Sport today and had to hold down the button until it started and hold down until it stopped. Is that normal? on my wife's 2012 evoque you just press quickly to start or stop.

Just copied this from the owners manual -

There may be a delay of up to 12 seconds between the START/STOP button being pressed and the engine starting. During this delay period, keep the brake pedal depressed and do not press the START/STOP button a second time. Doing so will cancel the starting procedure. To start the engine:•The Smart Key must be inside the vehicle.•P or N must be selected.•Apply the brake pedal.•Press and release the START/STOP button.Once the engine has started, the brake pedal can be released if it is safe to do so.Note: In very cold conditions, it is normal for the engine cranking time to be increased.

Doesn't really make it clear - I hold the button until the message appears to press the foot brake this then starts the Sport - never done it any other way - interesting to see what other members do  16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

I just put my foot on the brake pedal then press stop/start button, haven't really noticed any delay in starting.

Just tried pressing button once as per above but nothing - the Sport will not start unless the button stays pressed & the brake pedal is pressed - i wait for the "checking system" message to finish which then prompts the brake pedal message

STARTING A PETROL ENGINE
Never start the engine and leave it running when the vehicle is in an enclosed space. Exhaust gases are poisonous and can cause unconsciousness and death if inhaled.The Smart Key may not be detected if it is placed within a metal container or if it is shielded by a device with a back-lit LCD screen, such as a smart phone, laptop (including laptop bag), games console etc. Keep the Smart Key clear of such devices when attempting Keyless entry or Keyless starting.To start the engine:•The Smart Key must be inside the vehicle. •P or N must be selected.•Apply the brake pedal.•Press and release the START/STOP button.Once the engine has started the brake pedal can be released if safe to do so. 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

Before getting my Sport (diesel, auto), I had an Evoque (diesel, auto) and that started with just a quick press and release of the button. The Sport is definitely different and needs the button to be held in for longer. Took me a few weeks to get used to it after the Evoque.

The delay in starting after pressing the button I think just depends on temperature and how long it needs to fire up the glow plugs.

Yeah mine is the same, slight delay in starting. I guess it depends on temp as glow plugs need to heat.
There will also be a delay in stopping probably due to safety reasons as you don't want to inadvertently stop the engine. 2015 RRS AB SDV6, Fuji White, Ivory

As above,, there is a delay on mine but as has been said, it's dependant on temp, as long as you keep the brake pedal pressed it will start with just a momentary press. When stopping I can press the button without being in the car and it's stops straight away 2010 RRS, TDV8

Thanks for all your comments but thought I'd give an update.

Picked the 2012 sport up last week and have decided to let them (Marshal's Cambridge) have it back for a few days due to one small problem and one potentially large one.

I had realised that you needed to hold the start button down (unlike the Evoque) to let things warm up but unfortunately sometimes the car just does not start however long you hold the button down. Also the engine does not stop sometimes however long or short you hold the button down. Has anyone else experienced this?

The minor problem is that all the interior lights don't work with the exception of the main courtesy light and the boot light. They all appear to be on the same fuse and I find it hard to believe all the other bulbs have blown. Have tried holding down the centre button to reset but that makes no difference.

Thoughts appreciated....Many thanks in advance.

The rear cabin lights on the C pillar are manual switched only. Annoying but that's how they come out of the factory  Visitor from fullfatrr.com

I've been told there is a Mod on here for having all the lights come on/off together, but you have to do a bit of soldering (no problems there) but I'm if I can find it so far.
Technician at dealers said there is a mod you can do, but it would stop my warranty (2 years to run) so couldn't get further info.

Incidentally I hold the start button for 2-3 seconds and then wait for it to start/stop, time taken varies according to how cold it is out and if FBH is running, if on almost instantantly. John
