I bought the TDV8 because I wanted to and not for the MPG.......
But if the tank is empty I refill her.

But saying that I've just fitted 4 new hankooks and getting mix road use around 23mpg.

Does it really matter? Will you let it go because of the mpg? If the answer to both is yes why buy one?

I do short (ish) journeys to the station mostly in the cold. Lucky if I get 20mpg, mainly about 17 at the moment. But I don't care, I love the car and wouldn't swap for anything else at the moment. 2010 TDV8
