Battery readings and charging

I have a MY 2010 3.0 TDV6. It's recently started the multi warning (HDC, suspension, gearbox) nonsense so I started by charging the battery (it's happened before on my old 2.7 and the battery was the culprit). Car appeared ok for a few days then started with the warnings again. I charged the battery again and it's OK... For now.

I've checked the rear tailgate switch, seems good. Next up is the brake pedal switch (is this an issue on the later model?)

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows the levels on the battery you'd expect to see when ignition is off and when charging from the alternator? I get 12.5 volts with everything off. 14.8v idling (just after charging I might add).

I connected a multi meter to check for drain and found its pulling 5.5 amps with everything off. Maybe I didn't wait long enough for systems to sleep but I know that drain is way too high to sustain more than a couple of minutes. Any advice here?

Thanks. TDV6 2010 HSE

Yep - 5.5a is way to high - keep the meter in series with the battery ground cable and see what it drops to after 30 mins - while car is locked.

14.8 seems a little on the high side too - you might have diode problems in the alternator and need to get that rebuilt. After leaving it overnight is the alternator warm to the touch ? Else you need to start pulling each fuse and measuring drain in each circuit to see which one is high - you can get a special adapter on-line to sit in the use socket that works with your meter ...

Thanks for the advice. Not had time to get back out and test further but the car is behaving itself after a week since battery charge. TDV6 2010 HSE
