Glow plugs. Webasto heater.

Hi all

I have a 56 plate RRS HSE TDV6.

I have discovered, now it's getting cold, that all my heater plugs are gone. I'm in the process of applying penetrating oil to them before they get done next week. I am told it's a horrible job.
How many can it survive on?

Main question: I seem to have a Webasto unit on the right side of my engine bay. If I manage to get the car started, then switch it off, I can hear the until working away.
On my 62 Plate Vogue, I have a separate keyfob to switch a similar unit on before I get into the car. Warms the system up before starting the engine.

Question: how do I activate the unit in the Sport? Can it be started up before the engine fires?

Thanks in advance.

You may well have issues getting the glow plugs out another soulution is to fit this it will pre-heat the engine to the point where the glow plug light doesnt even come on, -1oC today and it worked a treat plus you get warm air straight away.

Great stuff. So my existing webasto doesn't have the feature in my Vogue? It just serves rot speed up the warming process once the engine is started?

Does anyone know how many plugs need to be working in order for the engine to fire reliably? All my plugs have gone, but the rear ones look ridiculously hard to get at. If I can do the front 4 (assuming one or more seize) - will I get away with it?

I'll buy one as soon as they come our of backorder.

Yes, on pre-facelift models the pre-heating function isn't available without the addition of a controller.

You should probably be able to get away with something like 4 out of 6 plugs. Good luck for no snapped ones.

Wouldn't even attempt to touch the glow plugs the chances of getting them out is almost 0. I would just get one of bells controllers, on the latter ones you can programme them into work on the Land Rover button. We have a D3 that comes in and that's what he uses just fire it up 20 mins first thing.. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

pin 2 on the large FBH plug appears to turn it on.
