Folding mirrors on key

Hey folks,

I've been trawling the web trying to see if it's possible to make the dream a reality, can an 06 RRS be modified in such a way as to allow the mirrors to un/fold when un/locking the car.

I think the answer is yes, I found a post on here with a link to this:

http://www.fordwiki.co.uk/index.php?title=...Remote_Key

Now the chap was saying it's the same on the RRS as on the Mondeo, now that's all well and good and the instructions are pretty straight forward - however!! It states that there is a harness down hear the drivers feet that you need to splice into, I've not actually looked yet but I'm pretty sure there isn't one on the RRS, my best guess is that you will patch into the BCM.

Nobody would happen to know if it is the BCM you patch into and if so which wires do you need to splice ?

This mod isnt hard to do with basic thinking you can work it out to tap into the power fold switch and wire to relay which gets power when car it locked eg the wire that activates alarm or others (not indicators as these need to be used when normal driving) the relay then clicks and powers the mirror switch.

Abit of thinking to do but can be done by someone familiar with the fusebox area - if someone knows what you can tap into to get the power from on lock / unlock then the rest will fall into play

I did similar in 2010 on my Audi TT MK1 for welcome / unlock/ lock headlamps mod. If I had more time on my hands or a RRS buddy to work with I could work this out!

Edit. I had a look at my old thread from my tt days ... my initial idea was to take the power from the interior light which comes on when the car is unlocked. I might give this a go when I get time Im sure I can do it.

If you take a feed off the interior lights the mirrors will fold every time you open a door or the boot.

A better idea would be to take a feed from the central locking, however you've then got the problem that when you double click the key to unlock all doors, the mirrors would start to fold and then return. You would also need to add a resister to prevent the car from locking if you fold the mirrors on the internal switch.

I found the original post on the DS3 forum and seemingly someone had doe the mod to their vehicle, but I can't seem to find it now haha.

That's true. I had a relay on my tt but can't remember if I fully finished it.

You could press 3 times if coming from the cl perhaps? interior light will be annoying I think I initially had a kill switch fitted but sort of defeats the he purpose if yiu are using a kill switch to disable the feed... might aswell press the fold button !

I have just found this kit:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/111016438613

Anybody have any idea if it'll work on Range Rovers? I messaged the seller and he said that it should but he has never installed on one, so he can't say for 100% sure.

Shocked if it works! looks a little bit cheap and Chinese... Rolling Eyes

At Ł25 though it might be worth a punt.

I'm thinking about giving it a shot, however, I'm not sure how to wire it. I'm not good with wiring things.

OK, I just bought exactly the same unit from a local online reseller. I should be getting it on the day after tomorrow, will not fit during the weekend as I have already planned my EAS compressor refurbishment, but I might be able to give it to a shop for fitting next week. Regards etc.,

Wow great product makes life easier and seems well thought out from the offset.

Defo worth a try but will require some basic wiring skills plus possible removal of door card but that's not hard to do.

They mention tapping into the door lock actuator which is a good place actually as the mirror wire is close to that anyway.

A one way relay would work well if trying to make your own so it stops the mirrors folding unfolding when the acc is on.
