2011 RRS diesel battery replacement

Hello all, a colleague is over here for a couple of years from the US and he bought a RRS. Anyway the battery kept going flat and it looks like it was a too small one anyway. So he bought a 019 Bosch one and I said I would fit it for him.
Jesus it's huge and impossible to get it to sit flat with all the sensors and plugs behind it.

How do you guys do it please? I think the big plug behind at the top of the engine bay has been fiddled with previously as its all black tape and cable tied so I was wondering if that needs to be removed so you can get the battery lip under the tray lip on the drivers side.

I intended to fit a 019 battery when I replaced mine as various catalogue's state this is a option, however it is some 40 odd mm longer than the original and really could not figure out how to get it to fit properly without bodging it in, so decided to fit the correct one which is a G14 AGM one or equivalent I think.

Cheers
Col

Looking at euros I think he maybe got the 020 s5 battery as it is huge!

Is the correct size 353/190/175mm?

I would need to measure but the highest cca Bosch euros do is 393mm long which is probably why I couldn't get it in.

What is the difference between the 017 and 019 please? Euros list Both and are the same size but the 017 is a lower cca so I thought the 017 was for petrol models.

Yuasa 019 fits in pre-facelift RRS although I needed to fiddle to get it in. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I thought all the 017s and 019s are, in practice, the same size? 353x175x190. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I think they are, however the Yuasa unit I put in recently has a slightly different lip shape/size along the bottom edge. The battery box appears to be designed to hook over this bottom lip, presumably to help hold it in place. I just needed to remove a little bit in the battery box to get it to fit. The rest of the lip sits as originally designed. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Yeah I just checked the battery spec and it says 353/190/175 so should be ok. It is the base which is too fat and can not slip under the trays lip. This then means the bracket bolt is hidden on the passenger side.

I had a look and on the DISCO3 forum has a thread where some people mention the bosch battery being too big. So think I will swap it for the Exide Premium and hopefully that will fit.

Yeah I think I got it wrong it was a 020 which I was told would fit, but it wouldn't as it was 393mm long and you just could not get it in the space.

Exactly what I found with Yuasa too. Managed to fiddle it so that it fitted OK in the end. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I have a Yuasa HSB019 in my 2011MY. I don't know how easy or hard it was to fit because I procured the services of a small boy (at Halfords). Over a year on and no issues to report! L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

Have you checked that it is actually secured correctly? On mine the only way to get the clamp bolts in was to mod the lip at the bottom of the battery box. Easy enough to do so perhaps your small boy did that too. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
