So people can help may need to know :-
1. How many miles has it done ? 2. Has the Auto been serviced and flushed ?
3.What gear does it stay in when in Auto mode?

100,000 miles in the clock and the light for
The service came in a few days ago so it's been

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

According to the ZFHP26 troubleshooting guide - failure to upshift from first gear could be faulty brake light switch or incorrect spec brake light bulbs.

Might at first sound ridiculous but the brakes and gearbox control are linked on the electronics and a failed switch can make the car think it is braking and stop the gearbox from changing gear

See this:
http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/us...%201st.pdf

Brake light switch is £15 and a 5 minute job to replace and proper Osram brake light bulbs from Land Rover are only about 50p each.

No guarantee this will fix your issue but the above is the first thing to try - a good independent Land Rover specialist will sort it out for you. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
