You could worse than a Merc- one with a 3.0 v6 diesel. E280 for example. Not quite 50 mpg but 40 is doable.,hugely comfy, very quick and nicely put together. |

Just out of interest, what BMW are you getting rid of? I would have thought a 330d would be perfect for a 90 mile daily round trip. 50+ mpg easily. Failing that, probably you will be looking at a VW Golf diesel or a Seat TDI.

I used to commute 75 miles each way, mainly dual & m/way in/out of London. I test-drove a variety of German & other things but in the end I bought a Volvo XC70 D5, which was perfect for the job.

Ady it's a 3 series estate - but under contract hire thro business. I absolutely hate it. Great in sport mode for off boy racers, but otherwise not for me.

I use my TDV8 to commute 95 mile round trip plus 30-50 miles a day out-and-about for the job. But then I bought it to use it.
