Control arm camber issues...

Ok, long winded this so bare with me......

So this week we replaced the control arms on my RRS S/C due to the bushes knocking, we replaced the whole control arm with ball joints and used new camber bolts.

We marked up the camber bolts so when we replaced they was pretty much bang on...he next day I took to a local garage that had a Hunter alignment machine to fine tune it in, as one does.

Half way thought the technician could not get any more camber on the N/S control arm (it was showing -1.50 neg camber), on closer inspection the bolt had become rounded, so the lose camber shim/washer was slipping, thus rounding off the thread. So, either I/we had ballesd up when doing up the bolts or he had rounded it off when trying to adjust the camber....nothing to prove there either way...so....had to take the hit.

The garage recommended we turned the bolt around the other way, so the bolt inserted from the front so the head end was actually in line with the 2 camber lobes built into the subframe, looking at it from an engineering point of view, it would have made sense for this to be like it from the factory (theres no camber lobes on the other side/inside), but the Hunter instructions indicated that it was in the correct way to start with.

So now the camber could be brought to within range, however we had noticed that the camber lobe notch was being rounded off, and the actual camber bolt was lifting out of the groves (hope this makes sense). There are no camber lugs on the subframe on the inside?

So, would this have cause any problems having the bolt in this way, I under stand that the rears the bolts would have fouled the cat.

Was the bolts suppose to be inserted from the outside in or would it cause any damage doing it this way? (to late now anyway)

Any fixes? I assumed using a lever to prise the tabs open or welding extra metal would help?

What a total cock up, all to replace 2 £10 Hydra bushes. Big Cry

and the closest we got the camber was N/S -0.41 O/S -0.34

within the Hunter tolerance, but not bang on either. '06 RRS Supercharged Cairns Blue
