Satnav Software Update £352!

I dropped off my car at the dealer from where I purchased it on Wednesday for its first service. I asked them if they could update the satnav software as a few places I drive through occasionally have changed due to reconfigured roads.

Chap called me later that day and said they can do it, but it will cost £352!!

I gave him the spiel about this being outrageous and surely software updates should be included as part of the warranty and I will just invest in a new A to Z but he said they couldn't do anything about that.

Does anybody know what is actually involved with updating the software and how it is done?

Thanks

£352 for a sat nav update! Was it one of the special platinum ones, with the diamonds on the side?

£169 for the update http://landrover.navigation.com/product/Ca...erEMEA/GBP

Rest is probably the 'time' it takes for the data to be transferred to the HDD from the USB.

Basically plug the Memory Stick into the USB port, use the touch Screen to input the Activation Code and leave it to update.

Update takes about 3hrs. car needs to be left running as the ignition turns of to conserve battery if not started. Although if you turn ignition back on update continues to load from point it had reached when it turned off, but it get's a bit boring turning the ignition back on every few minutes so easier to leave running.

Just plugged my 2016 Memory Stick into Laptop and it shows 20gb of information, even in the instructions that come with stick it tells you the update can take up to 3hrs. and mine did for both 2015 and 2016 update.

Cheers

Not to sure about that, because when you buy the memory stick from Navteq or Here as they are now called, when you receive the stick you have to log into there site and register the stick and your vin. number, and a activation number is generated which you have to input via. the touch screen then follow on screen instructions.

Not saying you can't download it from a site, but don't think it will be quite as simple as downloading a copy DVD, however I am not a Computer Wizz.

My new Aussie spec 2016 RRS is having vocal fits and stutters on a new freeway that has been open for 1 year.
It was continuously trying to announce"Traffic restrictions may apply, please respect..."
It also failed to show me my freeway exit and suggested a U turn.

Is it possible to view the navigation Version details on these HDD Nav systems?

The DVD navigation on the earlier RRS had a hidden/invisible menu button.
I can't find this information in my 2016 Owners Handbook. Aussie Spec MY16 RRS SDV8 Dynamic

I've given up using the LR navigation. Instead, I use TomTom Go 6005 (I think it is) which has much better navigation, speed cameras, lifetime map updates, lifetime camera updates and lifetime live traffic. It is spot on on its predicted ETA's where the LR effort cannot make its mind up. Mark

I use CoPilot on my phone. Works well, updates for free, a small (£6 IIRC) annual fee for live traffic updates with live ETA updates and re-routing options accordingly. Cost about £25-30 to buy CoPilot initially.

Google maps works well for traffic and directions but needs decent mobile signal when planning the route and for traffic updates en route.

I decided long ago that I wasn't paying £hundreds to keep the laughable LR satnav up to date. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I wonder will JLR ever sort out their nav? It really is so ancient.

My dad has a new 640D Gran coupe and the navigation is amazing on it.

Audi is also very slick for their nav MY10 HSE 3.0 TDV6 : Santorini Black : Ebony Interior w/Anigre wood : Privacy Glass (total) : Sunroof : Sidesteps : Hybrid TV : Detachable Tow Kit : Spare Wheel Cover : 22" Dished Supersports
