The wife only really uses the RRS for school runs (which is a couple of mins away), or runs around town (max 10 mins), and on the odd occasion it gets a 20min run at the weekend. Now with the cold weather arriving I was concerned about the battery, and planned to give it a charge this weekend. But got the call this morning it won't start (shame she will have to take the 10 min walk to school )

So, will stick it on charge this evening, couple of questions;

What battery do the RRS use? Sealed or maintained?
Is it worth me giving it a charge say every over weekend to keep the battery in good condition?
Are there any other checks I need to do to the battery or alternator?
Still has 17 months of the LR warranty remaining

The best thing you can do is put it on a trickle charger each night. A smart charger (e.g. CTEK) is ideal. Check the alternator is giving a good voltage and you can check for AC with a multimeter. You could check for a drain if you suspect one: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic119574.html

If I was an eccentric millionaire and I didn't want the hassle, I would just have the battery changed along with the oil each year. It's only £150 or so.

Fine to charge in the vehicle, but in your case it's important not to place the negative lead on the battery terminal but on another ground point (e.g. in front of the battery box) so the Battery Monitoring System sees the charge.  Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Does it have tow electrics fitted?
If so, buy a CTEK charger from Halfords/Amazon etc and buy a tow electrics charging lead from the shop on here.
If no tow electrics fitted then use the ctek comfort lead on the battery. Plenty of threads on this topic on Disco3 forum

I have halfords charger as I pic below, which I got from halfords before I got the RRS, will this be safe to use?

Not sure if I have towing electrics, how can I tell whether I have or not?

Using this halfords charger is it still important not to connect to the negative terminal?

Also, what exactly is the battery monitoring system?

hi all , yeah my battery let me down at minus 4 the other morning got the rac out and plugged into his van and fired up straight away he advised to renew it so i did 85 quid and all okay again ,ive had the rrs tdv6 for two and a half years so not bad

I've got battery cover from rac £20.99 and they fit a new battery for that if it's required.
My battery light just started coming on on a morning when I put heated screens on, I have a cigarette lighter volt meter which gives same readings as nanocom, it only reads about 12.6 on initial start up at idle but once I've driven 10 yards shows 14.6 and light goes out no problems starting but seems to be an issue somewhere. Nanocom Evo

Possibly time to replace the battery with new if keeps on discharging?

I had similar problem on my old 12 plate Autobiography where battery went flat a couple of times out of the blue after 3 'n a bit years. First time checks showed a higher than expected drain with a figure pointing to sat nav not shutting down fully. Pulling the fuse for sat nav seemed to reset that and drain value dropped back to 'normal'.

Annoyingly it went flat again within 4 weeks or so and this time all tests suggested all charging was ok and no abnormal drain when off ...original battery was replaced and seemed to solve it (before replacing with new model recently)

For reference my work is around 6-7 miles away so that was the daily drive, previously 3 miles each way without issue for a few years. Put it down to a deterioration of the original battery that a new battery could solve ...so assuming all your charging systems checked ok and acceptable drain on battery when shutdown this might be better option than recharging all the time?

Either way after experiencing this there's always the 'fear' of reaching for the start/stop button just in case you get greeted by the dreaded click...
