Smoking RRS

Evening Gents,

We all know the big puff of smog from a diesel under heavy acceleration, but mine smokes a lot after a peddle to the metal moment it goes on for ages.

Any idea's - could it be a second Turbo problem? 2008 RRS 3.6 HST - Stornaway / Black - Current

Check the air filter,,if it's not been changed for a while & is blocked it will cause black smoke.

What colour of smoke is it?

Blue smoke is a known issue, cured by fitting a new turbo oil drain pipe Thumbs Up
The oil doesn't drain away quick enough as the original return drains into the sump. The new modified pipe goes into the crankcase, much higher than the sump thus draining the oil away quicker Thumbs Up

Thanks for the replies fellers.

D.M. - yes blue smoke like a petrol car that has worn piston rings (hope that makes sense) runs on for about 1/4 mile or so.
Only does this after really giving it some beans off the line or overtaking.

I will get this checked out, would I get this carried out under my RAC warranty do you think? 2008 RRS 3.6 HST - Stornaway / Black - Current

As its a known issue, I expect any aftermarket warranty company would not cover it...

Mine was exactly the same.

If you check under the bonnet, on the left hand side you will have your intercooler pipe... mine had a huge crack in it, and once changed the smoking stopped, and the power increased by a mile!!

If it's blue smoke it's burning oil, so likely the issue Mike refers to rather than a split hose - not that it hurts to make a quick check. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Andy

Looks like i have the same issue. Clouds of smoke, strangely not all the time when accelerating hard tho.

Was the drain pipe upgrade a recall in its time, or is it a upgrade?

Also have a warranty so hope they cover it.

Assume you have been happy with it since, no smoke?
