New tyres, When??

What depth do you change tyres? I know the legal limt etc but when is it time? I bought my tdv8 last year and it came with a full ste of Matador's on it, not sure about these tyres for a start as they are a bit "el cheapo" and after a bit of spirited cornering the other night felt the front end sliding slightly. They have 4 or 5mm of tread on them all but cant get it out of my head that I should be rid of em!

And tyres if i do, i would like to go to the 45's (its running 20's) i live in suburbia and its only ever on road and I dont want to spend a fortune! Im thinking hankooks at the mo

They could last you another couple of years, however get rid of them and buy some decent ones, Hankooks and Toyo's are very good mid range tyres, certainly miles bettter than what you have on now, expect to pay arounf £130 each for Hankooks with Toyo Proxy's a bit more 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

It's down to personal choice but would fit general grabbers myself or cooper zeons though as I've said on another thread the generals have a higher speed rating which is better suited to the TDV8's. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Hi, Chopperneil 45's are a great choice. I ran Pirelli Scorpion 40's for 5 years on a TDV8 & always found them grippy but hellish hard on the ride. As per another thread with Camelrock, I've had Cooper Zeon 45's for 6 months & the ride is so much better. They are a fairly aggressive tread pattern as they are for off road use too so if you're strictly a tarmac user I'd research other road only tyres at 45 & make a choice Thumbs Up

Thanks, agreed I think something more road biased is what I am after, I have MTB's and Dirt bikes for when I want to get muddy Smile

Hi,

I've just changed the Pirelli's on the front of my SDV6 Black HSE @ 33500 miles.

They weren't down to he Tread Wear Indicators (about 2.5 to 3mm left), but in the wet, she started feeling a bit "skittish"!.

I got a full set of 4 (ready to the backs soon) - for £560 from Tyreleader - my local garage charges me £15 each to fit & balance - and they take care with the wheels too!.
