The date of manufacture should be stamped on the side wall.

Here is a tyre from my car. The last box the says "2213" indicates that the tyre was manufactured the 22nd week of 2013.

Over time the rubber compound d breaks down which is why you will see sidewall cracks on tyres over 4 or 5 years old.
