Help! Wheel insert thingy - Ooops.... Just got a lot worse!!

Just changing to my newly acquired set of winter wheel/tyres. I got the first wheel on with some difficulty but the second wheel doesn't want to seat on the hub very easily. The culprit seems to be a skinny little aluminium insert (see below in its semi-removed state)
that I think is blocking where the centre of the hub wants to go. Can I just remove this insert and keep safe for a rainy day?

They look like the Concentric Rings you used to be able to get to fit Sport Rims to the old P38's and possibly the Disco 2 as they were a different bore size something like 70mm instead of 72mm.

Cheers

OK, I think they were superflouous spigot rings. Sorted out wheels 2,3,4 but of course wheel #1 won't come off at all. Off to my local garage who is nuttering that I should bring a spare just in case it needs to be cut it off or the rim breaks Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Crisis averted. Nice people at my local independent LR Garage just jacked it up and whacked it several times with a big soft hammer. No cracks, no damage and ..... no bill Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
