Happy new year folks!

While trying to get my last problem fixed, i have contacted few independent garages around London and it looks like they are well ready to rip me off with any sort of additional problem in order to increase my bill to over 3K!

My car acts normally when cold, however when on normal temperature i get the following:

steady foot at cruising speed, once releasing the throttle the rev needle goes up and down (down even below 1000). This causes the car to slightly slow down along with the needle and get this annoying feeling of on/off power.

There is actually a weird noise coming from under the car that goes along when the rev needle is fluctuating, and it sounds like (my apologies but i don't know how to explain better) when you have a disc brake on a scooter or motorbike, and while driving you press the front brake lever gently: you can hear the caliper making that sound that is due to the holes on the disk itself.


This causes the car to struggle to accelerate, not only when up hill now but even on straight road and in order to go over the "struggle rpm zone" i have to push it almost full throttle.

The engine pushes well and i get a lot of power above this 2-3000rpm zone but it made it almost impossible to drive it around.

The gears engage normally and no weird noises from the engine apart from the one described above.

I don't have a trusted independent garage as i recently moved in London and therefore i am being extra careful of not getting ripped for something that possibly doesn't need to be fixed.

Any opinion would be appreciated.

If converter is slipping it should throw a code ? I wouldn't drive anymore like that - check fluid level in gearbox and condition of fluid. If you are lucky it might just need top up or fluid/filter change - but if tc clutches or bushing are going - you will need to replace ASAP before doing more damage to transmission ...

Contact Rovertune in Reading and talk to them about it. If it's not driveable you could get it trailered to them. Not used them myself but they have had several strong recommendations on this forum.

It might be a pain but if no one comes up with a decent London indie it might be your best shot. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Sounds like the TC to me. The sound that I think you refer to has been observed by sevral of us, myself included, to disappear after a new TC (I'd describe it as a metallic, light scraping sound - sound right?).

As alpaca says, if it is indeed the TC, it's important to get it sorted before the issue spreads to the rest of the box - hopefully, it is not too late in this respect.
