I wouldn't think you'd get 15 round town,,I'm only getting 22-23 out of my SDV6 round town.

Just to clarify here; from your previous thread, you are presumably talking about the 5.0 V8 in the L494, rather than the older 4.2/4.4 variants and in the much heavier L320. Also, supercharged or not? Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

A lot will depend on the sort of driving you are doing, diesels are best on long steady RPM trips, they have little advantage over a gasoline engine on short trips and in the city. In the UK and Europe it is generally helkd that if you cover less than 10,000 miles pa, doing short trips then a petrol engine is probably a better buy. If you are covering 30 to 40 mile a trip and the engine is getting fully warmed through with little stop/start driving then a diesel is better. I don't know about USA spec diesels but our Euro spec diesels now all have particulate filters. For stop start town / city driving they can be a lot of trouble as they need a regular longish run at steady high revs to cause the filter to regenerate (basically to burn out the particals trapped in the filter) if you don't get that fast long run at lest weekly then you can get a warning on the dash and might even have to get the vehicle into the dealership for repairs.... From what you have said the USA spec diesel run a different map to ours so we cannot give an accurate comparison. My 2015 MY HSE Dynamic can easily get 39 or more mile to the IMPERIAL gallon, which is pretty good, a 475 mile trip recently saw me doing a trip average ispeed n excess of 70mph and also a diesel consumption of 30 MPG (imperial gallons). Diesel in the USA is a different spec to European diesel so another factor to consider with the diesels in the USA. In the USA it is also possible that you might suffer heavier depreication on less popular diesels compared to the gasoline engines too. I have never owned a gasoline engined RRS, I have owned the 2.7V6 TD, the 3.6ltr V8 TD and now have the 2015MY version of the 3.0ltr V6TD which is a peach of an engine. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks, that's very helpful. I hadn't thought about the warm-up factor but I drive several hundred miles a week and I drive pretty hard so I'll keep it plenty warm. |

I would say in the US a petrol (gasoline) version is a no brainer as the stuff is so cheap there. Diesel is less popular and that does hit resale values a bit (I used to enjoy buying cheap diesel pick up trucks in NC once upon a time and bringing them over here). Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.
