L322 has never had the 2.7 Ford PSA engine, the first diesel in the L322 was the BMW 3.0ltr straight 6 up to 2005 or 6 when the only diesel option became the 3.6ltr TDv8. The original RRS (L320) has had variations of the Ford PSA V engine and from 2007 there was the option of the same 3.6 TDv8 that was in the FFRR L322 that was carried through to the 2010 facelift when it was dropped from 2011 when the 3.0ltr version was launched. Now (in the UK) we have the SDv6 3.0 and the SDv8 4.4ltr diesels both are a variation on the Ford PSA engine, there are rumours that there will be a version of the new Ingenium engine (currently a 2.0ltr diesel) coming sometime. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

With regard to the V6 diesels, the 2.7 TDV6 is the original, with a single turbo; the 2010 3.0 (named TDV6 in the RRS but SDV6 in the D4) is the improved version, with twin turbos; the 2012 3.0 SDV6 is the same engine as the 2010 but with new engine mapping taking it from 242hp to 255hp (the main difference between 11MY and 12MY is the gearbox though). The diesels are compacted graphite iron blocks. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

I have read some where that the new RRS had adopted a completely new engine, not the old FORD PSA

I believe that the new Ingenium engines are modular and can be stretched and also they use some Jaguar engines. The worst engine I have ever had in any Land Rover was the noisy, wheezy and rattly BMW 3.0lt in the 2003 L322 that I had, made me wonder why anybody ever wanted a BMW engine in a car it was so awful 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

By, moreorless, sticking with the existing engine, LR were able to improve reliability and save money and time. These engines were a great design from the start, and IMO, they've proved an excellent basis. LR's are properly designed to be used off-road which requires that extra effort at the design stage, which probably wasn't such a consideration with Audi and BMW. The Lion engine probably wasn't designed for 4x4 use originally though. It did have to be "Land Roverised". Other than the TDV8 and its turbo oil draining issue, that did work well and the engines have been excellent on the whole. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
