Hi,

Is it possible somehow to have the front sensors turned on when the car is travelling below 4-5mph ? Others have this and clearly the RRS engages the fronts either when you prod the button, or after reverse has been engaged.

Any mods that anyone knows about ?

With mine, I read somewhere that if you press and hold the button on the screen for 5-10 seconds, it then comes on automatically.

Thanks - I've just read this on the FFRR site......no doubt the same logic has been applied to RRS.

• Vehicle speed drops below 10 mph (16 kph) and the front parking aid switch is manually selected. (The front parking aid switch is located on the center instrument panel.)
• A forward gear is selected following reverse gear selection during parking.
Action: If a customer expresses this false warning concern, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin to replace the parking aid control module with the latest configuration. Ensure that the customer is instructed on the use of the enhanced front parking aid system.

Hello David,

I have just read your post (and the text originating from Land Rover I presume). I just bought a RRS and the manual specifies explicitly that if you press this button for 3 secs, the front parking sensors are activated permanently (meaning also after the engine has been switched off and on again). The problem is : on my car (MY 2016) this is not the case : when you press that button for 3 secs , the sensors are switched off. This is not as explained in the manual, so ? My dealer has no clue what to do, except contact " a product specialist". How does the system work on your car ?

I have a RRS MY2016 (registered September 15).

I've also been trying to get to grips with the functionality of the Park Distance Control (PDC) in forward gear. There are two methods in which to permanently set the PDC so that they operate automatically when the car slows down to 6mph. You can either:

1) press and hold (for 3s) the PDC soft key on the left hand side of the main display screen OR
2) navigate to the PDC menu option where you can select 'On' or 'Off' to achieve the same thing.

According to the manual, this should mean that when the car slows down to 6mph, the orange PDC light on the PDC soft key will automatically illuminate indicating the PDC as being active - even if the ignition is turned off and on again.

However, I have found that this setting is NOT remembered when the ignition is turned off and on again which means I have to check and usually turn on the system when I forward park or am in a multi storey car park.

Can anyone tell me if they experience the same?

A further issue that I have is that my front PDC doesn't seem to perform as it should (or at least not as my previous BMW performed). When about to forward park (and the PDC system is on), as I turn into a parking space the sensors don't pick up the cars parked either side of the space I'm driving into and I receive no audible beeping. As I finish the manoeuvre, the graphic display will show that I am close to the end of the space (be it shrubs or a wall or whatever) but again there is no audible feedback.

Can anyone tell me whether they are having any similar issue?

I have booked the car in to have it checked out but I'm not that confident in the servicing departments - the people I speak to always seem to know less about the car than I do!

Your experience of either of these issues would be much appreciated.

Hi, I have the same problem (see post above). I went to my dealer today and they think there must be a software solution. Let's see, I don't have much confidence in them either, we as customers seem to know more about our cars than they do. What the hell are those tech courses for ? I'll keep you posted.
Someting else : the RRS has two emergency buttons on the roof panel (the left one for LR assistance, the right - red - one for the emergency services). Yeah right... Both lead to LR assistance. "My dealer is working on it".

Ah well, have a nice weekend, at least the car is working...

Could well be wrong here but if you have the front parking sensor come on automatically this would need to be when you are going forward as not a lot of use if you are in reverse.

So one must assume they would be active when engage forward gear which irrespective speed if you were in slow moving or stationary traffic would they not continually sound every time you got close to the vehicle in front. Unless you switch them off which defeats the object of having them automatic.

You don't normally get close enough in normal traffic to trigger the sensors - their range is only about a metre or so. Occasionally, if pedestrians cross between stopped vehicles they can trigger but it's not an issue as only momentary.

I had that set up on my Merc, worked a treat, I have no idea why LR decided to turn them off, Ive nearly ran into a wall a few times waiting for them to activate 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater )))

So my car has been into the Land Rover dealer twice to investigate two issues with the front parking sensors and I thought I'd write an update..

The head technician tested my car and three other brand new Range Rover Sports he had on site and has found the same issues on all of them:

1) To activate the front sensors so that they are always ready (i.e. when the vehicle slows down to <6mph in forward gear) without the need to manually activate each time by pressing the parking sensor button or first selecting reverse gear. The manual is incorrect in its description to press and hold the parking sensor button. Land Rover have said that this has been changed but the manual not updated. Instead, you have to activate it in the Parking Aid menu accessed on the second page of the Home Screen menu. HOWEVER, the activation is not remembered after the ignition is turned off and on again and so the technician has logged a 'product fault' with Land Rover to investigate and report back.

2) The outer front sensors do not seem to be detecting objects until you are uncomfortably close to that object - we're talking just a few inches. Again the technician found this with my car and the other brand new RRS he tested. He has logged this as a product fault with Land Rover as clearly this is not functioning as it should - the manual states objects should be detected up to 1.2m away.

I would suggest that anyone with a brand new RRS registered around September 2015 to check this out on their car and report to your dealer to expedite a fix to these issues.

Mine was built in May 2015 and has exactly the same fault. I shall be reporting this to my dealer forthwith!

I've had a product fault raised since October. No fix available.

Currently in a loan 15.5MY built June, and pressing the holding the parking sensor key seemed to do nothing when I tried it yesterday, but low and behold today pedestrians everywhere were setting it off.

Not sure that helps other than to confirm erratic behaviour between vehicles.
