My EPB has given me no grief in the 32 months, or 60k miles I have owned my car

My TDV8 had a full LRSH until recently (indie now). It still ended up with a jammed EPB after the shoes wore out and then broke. The LR dealership obviously didn't service it or check it correctly even when paid a king's ransom to carry out the services.

Panavia, when you get it back check that the transfer box is working properly too. With the car stopped and engine running shift the main selector to N then try to engage Low range (operate the switch with the mountain icon and low on it). In view of the EPB issue I suggest you try this on the current repairers forecourt and if you aren't sure what I'm talking about get the Indie to do it for you. Owner's manual recommends monthly operation but I would bet that 99% of owners never bother. The other 1% are those of us who actually take our cars offroad or use them for heavy tow jobs................ I wouldn't mind betting that the dealer you bought the car from has never bothered to check the operation either. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I will make sure the transfer box is operated before I get it back. |

Operation of the low range selector is part of the LR service schedule so should have been done at least once a year...

The garage has diagnosed the EPB actuator is faulty. Based on what you've all been saying that's no great surprise. Just have to wait to hear if warranty wise will agree to fix it now, otherwise I've been told it will cost a grand to fix! |

Well surprise surprise warranty wise siver cover that has a big green tick against brakes covered, don't cover the EPB module! That's a grand to fix only 7 days after buying it. Had a 1997 Defender before this and it never let me down. If one more person says 'welcome to the world of owning a RRS' ! I'm on to the supplying dealer to try to get this sorted out. If this module fails so often why haven't LR come up with a better option? |

The module only fails due to poor/lack of adjustment and/or dirt etc. Keep it clean and regularly adjust it and it is fine. No doubt LR make a nice wedge from selling EPB modules, so I guess a better option isn't entirely in their interest, but it's also a farily core issue for any EPB system.

Ok thanks for that. im obviously going to have to get the work done regardless of who pays. Is there anything I can do myself to keep it maintained properly once done or should I go with some forum suggestions and just not use it ? |

Ok, understood. Thanks for the advice. Funny thing is that for some strange reason despite a bad start, I can't wait go get my RRS back! Wanted one for years, one of those itches you just have to scratch regardless I think. Thought I would go for it before I retire and can't afford to run it! |
