Tailgate opening problem

Can't open the top half of the tailgate on 2008 TDV8. Is this a common problem? How difficult is it to repair? Thanks

Could be just a failed micro switch, that's the easiest and a common item to replace. A local LR dealer should have them in stock.
Couple of other things it could be:
Broken catch
Blown fuse
Damaged wiring
A few people have also got stuff caught in the catch too
Lower tailgate not closed fully
