My Sport saved me!

On Monday, I was headed to work (within a few blocks) in Stamford, CT (USA). I was at a busy intersection, first in line. The light turned green, I checked to see the intersection was clear, proceeded into it--when out of the corner of my eye, I saw something large and black coming at me from the right. We're left hand drive so it was thankfully the right side of my car that was at risk. I realized we were on a collision course and could really only clench (I won't get more specific about what I was clenching) since the front end of the other car was about 18 inches from me!

The next thing was a loud crash (it was really loud)...sort of felt like a tank hitting an anvil (I was in the anvil). A Ford F-150 pickup had run the red light and was accelerating (about 30 mph) when it hit me centered on the B pillar. My car spun around 180 degrees and came to a stop--he continued on for another 300 feet. My right side curtain airbags deployed--no glass broke whatsoever (amazingly), and my hazards came on & the fuel shutoff engaged (so now I was stuck in the intersection.

Most importantly, I got out of the car, and was able to check on the other guy (both of us were ok--my back is sore from the whiplash), but essentially, the sport did the ultimate duty!

I don't have a damage estimate yet, but here's the picture of my baby being pulled onto the tow truck:

and here's the other guy:

I guess that boron-steel reinforced cage and all that frame did it's duty.

If I wasn't already a RR Sport fan, now I'm downright in love!

I hope you never have to take on a 6500 lb truck broadside, but I thought you'd appreciate the Sport's toughness.

Now I wait for the bad news..... 2006 RRS SC

Glad you're OK and by the looks of it not too much damage. Now the only problem is how quickly your dealer can get the parts! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Let's just hope that the damage to the structure of the car is not bad and it can be easily fixed.

Nice to know they can take a knock.

Thank you for your responses

Thank you all for your kind response. I am ok...just a sore back, but had I been driving a mini....

I spoke with my LR dealer, and he told me about a RRS that plowed into a parked car--rather than straightening things, they had to cut out the parts and take them off the assembly line, which took 2 months. The frame looks to have taken a hit, so we'll have to see.

Either way, it took the hit rather well; I felt very secure throughout the whole thing.

As for Very Annoyed's comment; no, not an excuse to show crash pics--it's really more to share what a solid car this is WITHOUT you all having to crash test it! 2006 RRS SC
