2012 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Firenze Red
Moving from an Evoque to RRS..

Hi all, was going to start my first post with a what car but I thought I'd introduce myself first.

So, I currently have an Evoque, bought in January this year.

It's a lovely drive but I've just been a bit meh about it.

I've been thinking about moving to a RRS and I just wondered how many members had made the change and what were your reasons for doing so?

I am currently looking at a 2013 model SE and a 2012 model HSE, the SE has a slightly higher mileage but both are priced the same- what would be better in the long run? A higher model spec with less miles (but a year older), or a newer, lesser spec with higher miles.

Both diesel, with me doing around 10k miles pa ( I also have another car to use).

Thanks for the anticipated replies!

Jason

10k a year - same as me. Thought about a supercharged? 500 horses can't be wrong!

Seriously, between the two, go for higher miles and newer as a general rule but lots of variables to consider - what options, how much you value them.

I went the other way, older car (MY12) as the car had only done 7,500 miles, sunroof, autobiography and rear entertainment - all of which was on my 'preferred options' list. I didn't intend on getting a S/c but glad I did now. I can live with fuel consumption at lowish miles.

Mines on right

Oh yes, was given an evoque for a week when mine was in for some work. Bit mundane after the RRS. Evoque HSE Dynamic

If you are doing mostly town driving there are advantages to having the S/C - no DPF's to clog up, diesels aren't a lot more economical in city driving (don't expect to see more than 24mpg on a diesel in city only driving) and when you do find an open road the S/C is so much more fun with it's trick handling pack! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I too would go 5.0 if I had my time again. The 3.0 is great but for my low miles, 6000 a year average, a petrol would handle it better and the 5.0 would have been an easier transition from the XKR.

I am sure an Evoque is an interesting, welcome alternative to a Golf or a Q3 or something, but really an RRS is in a different league altogether as you know! After using a courtesy or a hire car, getting back in the RRS is a bit like tucking into the finest ribeye after eating pot noodles or worms for a week.

I would worry the SE doesn't have the right equipment? An HSE could be easier to sell on. There's a decent amount of choice out there and you are in no hurry, so figure out what spec you want (must haves / nice to haves) and wait out for the right car. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... This has prompted me to think - never considered 5.0 s/c

I do 14k a year, mainly commute town to town thro countryside, occasional 30m blast up Motorway, then 1 big trek to Cornwall every year.

Would people go petrol ? Had only considered 3.0 diesel so far...

I'll get my calculator out

IMO I'd be going for the petrol. I've got an 07 tdv8. I like the car but would like a facelift. I test drove an SDV6 and felt disappointed. For me the only option is the 5 litre supercharged now and the last two years of ownership I've averaged 20k a year. As soon as my local dealer has one I'm going for a test drive. I'm sure I can average almost mid 20s MPG on a run.

James, you could be waiting a long time for a dealer to get in a 5.0S/C, they sell in tiny numbers and no dealer wants to have a car sitting on their demo fleet too long. You may have to look on the approved used website to see if a local dealewr to you has a used one that they might let you drive. Even the big London dealerships don't take S/C's on as demo cars. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I'm not in any huge rush to change. I've asked my local dealer to give me a call if they have anything coming in. After I test drove the sdv6 I registered my interested in a 5 litre so we'll see what happens. If nothing comes up by the end of the year I will start looking harder.

I was lucky really. I went to dealers to look at a diesel, 35k on clock but when I got there it had gone. Then I spotted the supercharger in the corner. I asked if I could look at it but they told me it had just come in and hadn't been prepped or advertised yet. I took for a drive then put a deposit straight away. I couldn't believe it had only done 7,500 miles.
When I picked up dealer said he had been getting calls all week about the car, as the advert had gone in automatically. I thought it was usual dealer guff but now I believe him.
I knew it would be thirsty as I had a Jag XF before and knew the XFR only did 22-25 to the gallon. I have to say I was a bit surprised to only get 15-19 though. As I only do 700-800 miles a month, my fuel bill has increased from £130 to about £240. That's about 1300 extra a year. Compared to depreciation that's not dreadful. Also I gather petroleum are a bit more reliable engines so hopefully gain there.

Hope this helps someone decide.

The newer S/C's seem to be a fair amount more economical (see my sig below)....although I am not sure how many years you'd need to be driving it to justify the uplift in cost lol. 2014.5 Mariana Black 5.0 Supercharged V8 Autobiography
