2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

With all that filming rig on it the SVR looks more like something that should be in a Mad Max movie! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Wearing a suit no less. Very Happy

Interesting mix of RRS and SVR interiors and exteriors. And how much 'more' power did they want? Very Happy

I couldn't possibly comment Mr. Green

It was an absolute blast doing that, one of the best three things I've ever done with work and a huge achievement for the technician teams building the cars and I'm really proud we managed to do it at the same time as ramping up to full production.

No need; we didn't do any. We respectfully pointed out the 550ps was adequate for snow and ice 😄

The situation with the top up oil is indeed a pain. One dealer tried to give me oil which is designed for diesel engines because the real LR specified oil is impossible to obtain. It seems this Castrol Professional oil is an ultra-low viscosity oil which may have more to do with improving fuel economy than lubrication. There don't appear to be any other oils which meet the latest LR specification.

My car does not yet need oil but it's difficult to believe that the Mobil One 0-40w which I use for my 991 GT3 which revs to 9000 rpm won't also be fine for the SVR. Mark

Mark,
I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble obtaining the oil considering the engine has been installed in our products for some time.

As for your comment on Mobil, you're correct that it would probably be fine but I think I'd recommend Castrol Edge as an upgrade simply because they are our technical partner and more likely to be compatible with whats already in there.

Thanks Mark.

I have found some on a German site which i might order to make sure J always have some.

I am coming from an F10 M5 which drinks vast quantities of oil and luckily is widely available... perhaps that has conditiined me to always want to make sure i have oil spare at home, work and in the car.

Thanks Dave. The issue is Castrol tell me the oil is only available through Land Rover dealers (which strikes me as a restrictive business practice), is not available to buy online (which would be my preferred method of buying it), and if you ask at a Land Rover dealer (ignoring the expense and their unwillingness to send it), you are either met with a blank stare or they try to sell you an oil for diesel engines which is "close enough". I queried this with the manufacturer and they confirmed it was not suitable.

It's a mess and I fail to understand what is so special about a Ford manufactured engine which makes it need an oil which is well nigh unobtainable compared to my engines made by Porsche, Ferrari and AMG, all of which exist very happily on a diet of Mobil 1. Mark

Thanks Rich, like you I like to keep oil in the car at all times. Running low is not the time to start hunting it down. If you could pm me the web address, that would be very useful. I'm in Germany at the Nürburgring at the moment so it might be I could pick some up next week or the week after. Mark

Was one of the cars the 'Ring test car (black 22" wheels, non-blue callipers)? (I see there were several, including one not on SVR wheels).

Or if you tell will you have to shoot us? Very Happy

Thanks! I'm on the case. Interestingly, lots of filling stations have Castrol Edge Professional here, just not the ultra runny stuff the SVR is meant to have. Seems Castrol is a bigger brand in DACH than in the UK.

Edit: thanks to Rich, now ordered 3 litres from Amazon.de. Even with shipping to the UK, it costs less than the LR dealer charges and means I have the right oil for top ups. Mark
