All the magazine articles that I have seen say the SDv8 is not such a big performance step up from the V6 in everyday motoring that it isn't worth paying so much extra for those 2 additional cylinders, extra weight and fuel consumption..................... I know, nobody believes what the motoring journalists have to say and what do they know anyway! They all recommend the 5ltr if you can stomach the additional running costs. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks - It's interesting - having stepped out of an SDV8 into an SDV6 for the intervening period, there is a signifcant difference, between those two, and it may just be my driving style, but the economy between the V8 / V6 seems comparable (i realise the official figures say otherwise) - as the engine is working a fair bit harder than the V8 ever had to, borne out by the eco meter showing the engine score being lower than throttle and breaking, whereas previously this was generally higher than the acceleration no matter how spiritied my drive. |

5.0L is certainly more fun, and there's zero lag in pull away but resale on a 5.0L will be the killer. Depends whether you're bothered about that or not. For one, selling a used petrol SUV is much more difficult than a diesel plus if someone is looking for a fast RRS, they'd likely stretch the extra and get an SVR. SOLD - 15 plate Estoril SVR

In terms of running costs and residual value it depends on how many miles you do and how long you intend to keep the car.
