Range Rover Sport Bonnet Open Fault

Hello all,

I recently went for a weekend trip, only to go through a massive water puddle at about 50 MPH. Shocked Later the next day, l parked the car, returned to it and started it up. Immediately l was presented with the "Bonnet Open" notification. Big Cry Despite opening and re-closing my bonnet several times, the error remained. Censored

Here is a video clip of how l fixed it. Rolling with laughter Please excuse the audio as this is my first video compilation.

All thanks to Land Rover Assistance On-call Technician Thumbs Up EasyriderUK

And then as is always the case with You Tube... I end up spending another 30 minutes watching related video's that all tend to merge into a totally different subject! Laughing

Bonnet error message

Great tip and video. Thank a million as this simple error caused me much distress with the message constantly blinking on the dash as well as the loud horn sounding every time I locked the doors from the remote upon exit. This always made my 2 year old bawl cause it's so loud.

For some of us it may be difficult fitting our fingers as the video prescribed. I found that I gained access (to the spot being described in the vid) easier by entering just in front of the yellow bottle cover. This is supped to be the washer fluid if I'm not mistaken.

There's a larger opening just in front of that yellow cover where you can fit your fingers through a bit easier toward the latch. Compare the left and right latches and you would notice the latch on the driver side (right) has a type of module clipped onto the bottom of the latch. This I believe has something to do with the problem.

Now I was expecting to feel or hear a noticeable click, but in my case it was barely noticeable. I took my fingers and basically pressed up that module. There was an ever so slight movement upward to the latch base.

I started her up and problem solved. Greatest tip!! Live love laugh...

Great video!
My alarm has been going off at odd times over the last 3 weeks and I put it down to someone setting their car alarm and subsequently setting mine off.
I then noticed that I was getting a "Bonnet open" message which was why I was getting that annoying horn when re-alarming.
I watched the vid and think it sorted it out straight away but I didn't hear or feel a "click".
I just applied pressure to it, closed the bonnet and did a system check.
No more message so many thanks! Thumbs Up

Change the switch/latch. £25 and 20 minutes and it's done properly. Hardly worth trying clever shortcuts really. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

look inside the catch (from the top) there is a "silver" switch plate that needs to be cleaned. electrical cleaner and a ear bud does the trick
