SAT NAV display surround

My 07MY RRS does not have the optional SATNAV system, so does not have a screen in the little cubby above the radio. I had a Garmin satnav that is propped in the cubby and it works quite well but I would like to make it look more like the original fit.

Obviously I could buy a LR surround that is around the OEM screen but I would like to investigate alternative options.

Can anyone tell me if there are aftermarket surrounds and where I might buy them.

Thanks

This any good?: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic62936.h...2Bsurround

Don't know if it would fit the RRS quite so well. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Thanks but I would need one specific for the RRS - maybe the supplier of the the D4 version has something suitable - I will chase up.

Interesting Garry.
I have been investigating running a Garmin/Navman in front of the existing SAT/Nav because it doesn't have half the features i.e. speed, traffic, cameras and all the other stuff. Also I am not sure how old the version is in mine.
I have looked and the 7" versions seem a close fit. I have now made up some templates to do actual comparsions but the rear holder & input plug seems to be the biggest problems.
I didn't want to pull out the existing (lucky you don't have it). Keep in touch if we can find or work out something suitable.

Why not look at a tablet install instead?

Well I did have a look at Tablets too. But there aren't many the right size and there is no hands free phone feature.
I believe from my comparisons the 6" Garmin GPS fits the best, right in front of the screen(in my case)but there is still the problem of the input connection.
So I have brought a 7" Navman with larger vehicle (read caravan)assist and 4wd drive tracks . Got it for A$250 down from A$399.
It will not quite fit close to the orginal screen and mounting it was still going to be an issue.
I have made a holder out of Aluminum square tube. Cut it to fit across the cubby hole between the vents. Cut matching slots in the top that the Gps fits tightly into. The wire goes out the back and is unseen. Still to decide whether to screw it down or use some good double sided tape.
And oh boy nobody will need their glasses not even in the back seat. Thumbs Up

Over on the Freel2 forums there is a very good thread with photos about how to install an aftermarket satnav system in the empty satnav dash slot of a Freelander2. In Europe we also have a new range of Parrott double DIN Asteroid multifunction headunits that include handsfree, satnav apps as well as streaming audio and radio 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
