Later vehicles (i.e. from 10MY) have a "smart" charging system and do run at lower voltages, but yours shouldn't be. What type of aternator is it; is it OE? Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

No i have just had a denso 14v 150a fitted which is the replica of the previous alternator.

Denso is OE so no issues there (thought, that's not to say it can't still be faulty).

I have a guys number who is an electrical mechanic so hopefully when i can get through to him he will be able to test the connection as sadly im not very electrically minded.

No, you don't have the smart charging system. I would think the problem is likely to be either a wiring issue or a faulty alternator. One would hope it's the former, but faulty parts out of the box do occur...

Ive now got it booked in tomorow at a garage that "specialise" in electrical faults he said it could be the wire at fault . Also ive taken the old alternator to the local shop where they recon alternators and hes told me its definatly got smart charge on it as i have the smart charge connection on the alternator so now im very confused :/ . |

The alternator is not entirely dumb, it is controlled by the engine ECU, but the true smart charging system with battery monitoring etc. is only on the later vehicles. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Cool thanks for your help bud ive just had a chat with the mechanic he said hes found a fault in the generater system and hes now going to find the cause. Thanks again |

Hi guys just had mechanic on the phone hes sorted it apperently it was the wiring hes now cleared the fault and cleaned the wires up just happy its sorted. Also i spoke to the guy whos tested my old alternator and he said it was working fine all along which is a bit guttering seen as ive spent £950 all told now just for loose wiring.
