Remap TDV6 / SDV6

I posted this over on the Disco Forum, however had no response Big Cry

I would love to get my car remapped, however it's going to be a problem as the car is in Spain.

So begs a couple of question:--
1) If I buy a new ECU, then what info is needed to clone it, could I obtain this info myself, if so what would I need?
2) If the current ECU on your car goes tits-up, then what does the dealer do, I assume simply fit a new ECU., so why bother cloning?
3) Does the Replacement ECU need to be a new ECU, or will a second hand one suffice?
4) Can we use the ECU of a later car, e.g SDV6 instead of a TDV6?
5) I have also been led to believe (by someone at Gaydon) the power units are the same, it's only an ECU mod, and possibly the JLR dealer could flash a TDV6 ECU to SDV6.

I guess at the end of the day, if I have a remap, then I will end up going down the BAS route, I have had Pete Bell remaps on my last Sport etc, and the big plus has to be his after sales support.

However, if I could simply fit an ECU from a SDV6 car, new or used, then that would be a great way to add a few more BHP.

Have you spoken to Pete about it? I would think the easiest/cheapest option would be to post your ECU over, albeit a bit inconvenient? Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

And if it gets lost in transit ????
I need to be careful as my car has 2 years warranty on it from the JLR Dealer.

Be nice to get an answer to any of the 5 questions I posted though Thumbs Up In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

Afraid I can't be of any more help. The only thing I would say though, is that your ECU will be tuned to your engine, so simply fitting one intended for a different engine, be it "TDV6" or "SDV6", would not necessarily produce good results (hence the existance of custom remaps). Possibly also imobiliser issues?

Warranty - yeah, that's definitely going to be a bit of a risk. Sad Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

England 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

I would think if posting your ECU with a reputable courier company tracked then you would be ok Question I'm sorry I can not be more help on your questions, I did consider buying another ECU myself but in terms of coding it to the car I have no idea what's involved. I would say cars information and immobiliser are the issues as Lost for Words has suggested. There are certain people in the know who have done a fair few and can open and seal up the original ECU without it looking like it has been touched Whistle 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black
