Tdv8 - how do you know if it is remapped

Hi all - a very stupid question no doubt, but I just had my car in at rover tune for a check up. All good, and my whine type noise may be a seal on the front windscreen by all accounts.

I was told though that the car is running really well, but they would not be surprised if it had been remapped as it 'flies'. I bought the car in June from an independent dealer and this was not mentioned. How can I go about finding out? Would a Land Rover dealer be able to plug the ecu in and tell me? I don't have any other experience to compare other tdv8 cars.

Obviously has implications for insurance but also the warranty I have which stipulated that the engine can't be modified....

Cheers,
Steve

I only found out my D3 was already remapped when I was going to have it done by Pete Bell. If you're considering getting it done, whoever's providing the map should be able to tell you. I wouldn't let LR near it if you think it could be remapped. Otherwise, if you don't know if it's remapped, you don't know... Whistle Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I found out from the prior owner it had a superchips map on it. Have purchased a handset from them and have re loaded the original calibration. Have to say, I probably prefer it with the map as it goes like the proverbial off a shovel, but at least this way things should be simpler should I need the warranty. The map is pretty good though, and would recommend (although I have no experience of other maps on these cars to compare).

I'd leave the remap on and enjoy, as you now have the means only remove it when you have a problem which requires a trip to the garage for pos warranty repairs.. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

As for removing map,,it depends who has done it as with some the mapper could put a code in that only he knows. My Subaru sti widertrack was mapped but the only person that could get into the ecu was the mapper unless you get another ecu & have it reprogramed.

Perhaps consider putting it back on when your insurance expires and choose someone else. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I can easily have the insurance amended to accept the modification. My fear is that if the car needs warranty work (and it may do as am not sure what my whine still is) then they could say no thanks based on the fact the engine was modified historically - assuming they looked into it that deeply.
