Dashcam - E-Prance 0801 or 0805?

Dashcam - E-Prance 0801 or 0805?

Looking to get one of the above, the 0805 looks like the one to go for as it has a few more features, including motion detection.

Has anyone got any experience with these? Would you recommend? How long would the 32Gb memory last for before looping back to the beginning? Will this drain the battery if left for too long?

Thanks in advance?

John

It is actually a Mini Cam 0801 or 0805 - I suspect E-Prince is a local company that has added its name to the product.

Any way I have the 0805 and it works great - the newest model is the 0806 which is better again. The 0801 is really old and the models have been upgraded from 0801 to 0803 to 0805 to now 0806.

Be aware the the GPS function is provided by the mount not the actual dash cam itself - so when ordering make sure you order the GPS version.

They are a good product for not a lot of cash.

PS forget motion detection and the lane diversion function - all marketing hype that really do not work.

I run a 64gb card in mine - time depends on the resolution but I get about 12 hours before it starts to overwrite. The internal battery only lasts about 15 minutes or so but it really only there to keep the camera running while it goes through its shut down routine after 12v power is switched off. Unless you hard wire the unit into permanent 12v rather that switched the dashcam is only on when your car is running. 07MY RRS TDV6

I have an eprance branded 0801 hardwired into the overhead console such that it is live only when ignition is on. Bought it in November 2014 as an experiment really just to help get my head around the whole dashcam thing. Here we are 9 months later and it is still working perfectly.

There are various brands out there and some it is alleged are knock-off copies. If you stick to eprance sold on Amazon I am advised you have some reassurance it will be OK.

Agree with comments about GPS. Also don't buy one with a big built-in memory as it is pointless just buy an SD card with maximum capacity and speed recommended. Order the hardwire kit from Chinese supplier off eBay for less than £2 - any 12 to 5 volt transformer with a micro USB plug on the end will do nicely.

Search for a review on the website techmoan and read before buying. The supplied viewer software is useless but you can download the free Russian one called Registrator viewer which works very well. Helps if you are a bit of a nerd when figuring it all out! 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

One way to hard wire it is via the roof lights console:

I have an 0801 with a big SD card and GPS in the mount. Works a treat!
Mounted just off centre towards passenger side
Mine is plugged into the ignition switched cigar socket behind the centre cubby box via an extension lead.
All wires tucked away behind trim etc

dont get those, get a A118c which has a capacitor instead of a battery so in theory will last longer...this dashcam is the one that techomoan uses in his car so it cant be that bad.. Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the advice

I wanted this to work when the car is parked up as well, as we recently had someone back into us in a car park and drive off.

Is there anyway I can get a permanent feed to this? Maybe have it on a switch, and if I do, will it drain the battery?

To get a 0801/05 to do what you want it will have to be switched on 24/7. Motion detection is not for this function - more for when you are driving and generally it will not detect motion when driving and stays off. A gimick.

I believe the latest model 0806 can do what you want - it records at a very slow rate - basically slow stills - when parked saving power.
