Deployable side steps - how to keep deployed?

Hi all. I have a L494 with the deployable side steps, which I love. However cleaning them (eg taking to a hand car wash place) is a bit impractical as they retract after a short period unless the doors are open... Which I find can be a bad idea in a car wash!. Is there any way of keeping them deployed while sitting in the car? The button under the dash seems to do nothing at all!

Thanks in advance.

If you just have the ignition on ( engine not running and doors closed ) press and hold the button under the tailgate release within 3 seconds of turning the ignition on, they will then deploy until either you drive above 5 kph or lock the car. You can turn the ignition off and they will stay deployed . repeat the above process to stow.
Hope this helps. 2015 HSE SDV6 Scotia Grey, ebony / lunar, colour coded, deployable steps, TV, sliding pano and a few other bits. Now gone

But don't rush to do it after shutting down. It seems to take around a minute before the steps will deploy on pressing the button.

When I take mine to get washed, I pull up, turn off, then put ignition on and they come out, no need to wait, maybe I'm just lucky? 2015 HSE SDV6 Scotia Grey, ebony / lunar, colour coded, deployable steps, TV, sliding pano and a few other bits. Now gone
