3.0 TDV6 'SE' vs 3.0 TDV6 'HSE' MY2010 onwards

Hi all,

New here and looking for some advice on these great cars. I had initially been looking to get a FRL2 but had a nose around a dealer the other week and not sure I like them.

Main question is surrounding the SE trim level. Does this have a lower output engine compared with the HSE spec?

I actually test drove an SDV6 with the 8 speed box but I don't think my budget will quite stretch that far.

I have seen a couple of nice looking SE spec cars http://theautoagency.co.uk/vehicle/land-ro...v6-se-5dr/ with this being of interest. Are the 6 speed boxes noticably different in refinement to the 8 speed? I see LR themselves are now fitting the 6 speed again in the RRS2. Seems the 8 speeds are holding value better than the MY10 with 6 speed.

Any tips or pointers would be good!

Cheers,

charlie

I am an unrefined TDV6. What I don't know won't hurt me. Rolling Eyes

What i can say, however, is these overweight living rooms on wheels give out wallops of torque, so around London they feel very spritely indeed. I moved from an XKR. No regrets. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

I have a TDv6 6speed and was given a 2015 Disco 4 8 speed as a courtesy car. There really is not much in it, providing your gearbox is running correctly.

The slightly better fuel economy could be eaten up by the higher purchase price. Unless you're doing big miles the maths is not that different.

If just done Shrewsbury to Barmouth and back and fuel comp is saying 35.4MPG. I did intentionally drive to see if I could get a half decent MPG though.

Mpg not really a consideration if its over 25ish. I currently get around 26.5 from my family car so sounds like it will be an improvement in any case. I would absolutely be looking for a v8 or supercharged if they hd even remotely reasonable consumption.

Was more a question of underpowered/refinement of the lower powered SE with a 6 spd box. But seems that might be a non issue after all. Still not too clear on if SE means lower powered/tax bracket by default or not.

Maybe I would be better off searching for an HSE.

Finally - how much more reliable are the turbos on the v6's over the v8's? I wouldn't want to suffer a blown turbo by the looks of it!

HSE/SE etc are interior/exterior specs only. They do not refer to the engine or emissions.

OK I see!

Is/was there a lower powered 2010 MY TDv6 engine? Not that I want one, I would just want to know what to look out for..

In 2010 the only TDv6 for the RRS was the 3ltr, later on at the end of 2011 I believe the SDv6 was introduced with more power and the 8 speed automatic gear box.

I'm new RRS owner so no expert. I asked myself similar questions between SE and HSE trim and also engine differences in the TDV6 (2010) and SDV6 (late 2011 onward). As per previous post SE / HSE makes no difference to engine. The latter spec has memory seats and nicer leather / wheels I think. I found the SE trim was cheaper and more rare so wanted HSE as I hope will hold value better (no idea though). The 8 speed was introduced with the SDV6 I think and included an engine remap making it more efficient. When I discussed with LR I also learned the newer 8 speed model has different firmware (infotainment), HDD, dual view screen, paddle shift, and electric tailgate as well. So not all that much changed with the 12MY vs the 10MY but for me it was worth the extra cash to get the SDV6 (8 speed). I drove both engines and think there's little difference in the drive. There did seem to be quite few changes to the overall spec though.

Hi,
as has been said above MY2010 only one Tdv6 engine
as for spec, decide what spec you "need" and what spec you "want" and if the SE has what you want consider an SE
An SE will always be worth less against a HSE like for like, that's buying or selling
although don't think dealers know this when they Sell only when they Buy Laughing
See what comes along, right colour interior/exterior, right condition, good history and depending where you buy top notch warranty, if everything is right for you and its an SE Thumbs Up

and that's before you even start trying to compare any options fitted Rolling Eyes

PS I love the timed climate remote and needed towing gear Whistle each to their own.
