My upper tailgate has a mind of its own and wont open most of the times, I have noticed if I slam the whole boot lit down quite hard then the upper tailgate switch operates fine but when I close the full boot lid normally then the upper tailgate switch does not work at all???

I was thinking of replacing the upper bootlid switch but before I do that should I be looking elsewere? Is there some kind of sensor telling the upper tailgate that the main bootlid is in the closed position as I find it abit of a coincidence it works when I slam down the main bootlid  RRS SUPERCHARGED, 22 INCH ALLOYS, JAVA BLACK, FULLY COLOUR CODED
