Gearbox Power Flush

Thinking about getting the gearbox flushed, does anyone know anywhere in the west midlands that does this and how much should I expect to pay?

Also, any feedback off people that have had it done would be appreciated, do you notice the difference and was it worth doing etc?

Thanks Thumbs Up

Geoff (username "geoff.") comes up to the midlands from time to time to do flushes. He's been out to Wiltshire to do mine. Thumbs Up

Is it worth doing? YES! It's essential to prolong the life of the not only the torque converter, but also the rest of the transmission. Wink

What mileage are you at? A full flush every 50-75k is recommended. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Thanks, I'll drop him a PM

Its about 130k now, and I doubt it has ever been flushed. The previous owner had everything done to landrover recommendations which (correct me if I'm wrong?) doesn't include a full flush.

Stupid question coming up.......

On the Land Rover service schedule it recommends

Change automatic transmission fluid and filter (10 years)
Change transfer gearbox oil (75k and 150k miles)

Which one is the power flush changing?

The 50-75k recomendation is from ZF rather than LR (and is also born of experience). LR's initial suggestion that the boxes were "sealed for life" has caused the self destruction of many otherwise excellent transmissions. Sad

At 130k, you're fairly lucky not to have issues already (mine's in for a new TC as we speak - ~120k).

You should also be aware that a flush can cause issues to become apparent in the box that were being masked by the old oil (but that's not a reason to not have a flush, as, if this is the case, then there's nothing you can do anyway).

If you haven't had any symptoms yet, then you may be just in time. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Sparky I'm on the same milage and just treated mine to a flush, definitely worth it. Mine also had full dealer history up to 125k miles.

Gear changes have greatly improved. I also had an issue with a non working MAF (the fuse had been put in the wrong place?!?!) and a boost leak in the Turbo. Had all 3 sorted in the same 24hr period and it's like having a new car!! Unbelievably good ride now.

Last job is a Hunter Wheel alignment this week and the car "should" be running fine! 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)

It was £240 by DiscoMikey on his Manchester adventure last week. Think its normally £300 though. 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)

DiscoMikey did mine yesterday. Just done the 100+ miles gentle driving recommended after a gearbox reset. All seems ok to me so far.
