Cleaning air filter tdv8

Hi all - sorry for the very basic question, but can someone let me know the location of the air filter? Also is it just a case of unscrewing the lid, popping it out and cleaning it or do I need to remove any sensors or anything? Other cars I have had have been easy as just literally unscrew, pull out, clean, put back. Just wondering if this is the same? Thanks, Steve

A new, OEM filter costs less than £10. Please don't clean it, just replace it Thumbs Up

Unless you have a K&N/ITG/Pipercross performance filter, then ignore the above

The air filter is inside a big plastic box, just behind the R/H headlight. Held in place with 7 Philips screws

Mikey, how exactly does it help? Just replaced mine but interested in its function, especially in what it prevents. cheers. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

It stops bits of rubbish etc getting into the engine, meaning just air and cleans that by holding any bigger particles (sorry for the basic explanation). Any bits of debris getting through could damage the engine/turbos.

For my own sanity I have checked as the whine I have only on acceleration is bugging me.... 😁

Maybe someone knows or has the same issue. I have a tdv8. Drives beautifully, pulls great once warm and no other issues apart from this whine. Cruising, nothing. The slightest push on the accelerator, then a whine ESP above 50/60. Really can't work it out. Filter is fine, and other bits seem ok. Was serviced 3 months ago, and since then has been into an independent who says it seems fine! You can hear above the radio though.

I have driven lots of turbo cars, and none sound like this. It's almost like a belt type sound. Could it be a bearing on the wheel? Only on acceleration though which leads me to think it may not be.....

Any ideas for a very non clued up car person to check?

Cheers guys,
Steve

I had the same problem 2 years back and it was the front offside wheel bearing. replaced it and hey presto, beautiful ride. jack the wheels up and see if you have any play in them. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.

Just on acceleration? I'll try that. Doesn't fell like a car with a huge problem....

Ah, mine only whines when I press the accelerator. Cruising, no noise at All. I'll have a check of some things at the weekend. Cheers, Steve

Hi, has anyone got any ideas at all as the noise is doing my head in.

Only happens above 50/60 and only when pressure is on the accelerator (even very slight). For instance if cruising at 75/80 on motorway with no throttle is fine. Slightest touch on the accelerator the whine starts and gets louder with revs. Is like a belt/fan noise. Seems to be when the engine is at its fastest (under heavy load or slight acceleration at speed)

I know it could be anything and diagnosis is difficult without bring in it, but any help you can give would be appreciated. The Indy I took it to (who does the work for the dealer I bought it off) says it might be induction noise and he thinks it's fine, but I've been driving turbo cars for a long time without this.

I'll be getting it into rover tune when back from holiday for a second opinion, but would be good to know thoughts.

Thanks,
Steve
