Roof Rail Kits

Prompted by a FS post for crossbars, I wondered what the cost would be for the rails as well. eBay is full of RRS Rail & Crossbar Kits (of varying quality no doubt) for £150-£200. So that seems a potential but the question is, are rails removable? Not sure I want rails on all the time but I seem to recall that they might not be.

I originally bought the powerful UK cheap copies and fitted them - they were Censored

I returned them and got genuine LR set off duckworths - definitely better quality but lot dearer Bow down

I have previously fitted and transferred LR roof rails without issue but I had to leave the rails on this time due to lack of time and wrong fittings supplied to blank holes in cover strips Rolling Eyes

So I now have the bars but no rails. They are easy to put on and take off so I never left them on unless I was using them. The rails are low profile so I wouldn't worry about them Thumbs Up Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Any reason for needing roof bars ? (I can see Muddy needs them for his wee boat thingy)
Getting heavy things up there is a bit of a reach unless you carry a small step ladder about!

Yeah - long things!

I'm forever moving ladders and long bits of wood which otherwise stick out the back. Not always practical to stick a trailer on the back.

Used to have an XC70 which had rails as standard, so together with the crossbars it was very useful/practical to have around.

Not sure if its £400 useful though...

I have the genuine Land Rover bars which are worth the money as the after market ones just don't match the genuine, easy to fit and easy to remove the crossbars when not needed, I put mine on and off every time I use it for the bike etc however as said it is quite hard putting the bike up there I have to open the back door and stand with one foot in the footwell and one on the wheel arch bit that the door covers Confused Makes it quite a high vehicle then though

I've used them and always been good Thumbs Up

I considered there offerings but weighed up risk of damage to roof from foot pads and fixed distance of bolted on type wasn't workable with my roofbox so went for genuine type - they were also easier to fit and remove so I didn't end up leaving them on when not required Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
