drivers door solinoid dosent lock, can it still be sensor?

im new to into ownership of my RRS. ive had some early issues with the car.

one of my problems is i noticed, by chance when i went to open door when it was "locked" that the drivers door still opened.

ok so searching this forum is helpfull i found the 'how to' change the lock/solinoid with pics. i have no issue with fitting a new unit... however.

they say the common fault is the door lock sensor...is this the same sensor that lets you know when the drivers door is open? as my dash still lets me know this. surely its the same sensor?

cheers

spence

Hey Spence,
I can't say for 100% sure, but I remember on VW's that the door switch is built in to the door solenoid and the solder joints inside break down. They can be stripped and re-soldered but they're not that easy to take apart without misaligning or breaking something.

I wouldn't be surprised if the RRS doesn't use a similar system as it sounds like the same problem.
It really depends on how adventurous you want to be, and whether you fancy stripping the solenoid down to see if the solder joints have failed. Search for something like MK4 Golf solenoid repair or something similar and you'll find guides on how that system works.

Like I say I may be wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not as it's really familiar.

i can hear the drivers door solinoid making a noise. (it locks if i lock the door on inside before i close it. )
sounds like door solinoid goes to lock , then back off.

cheers

Mine did this recently and a new latch fixed it. They are also prone to wiring issues in the door - if you remote lock it a couple of times does it eventually lock? If so, it's the latch. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
