I'm afraid that this is in part because LR have fairly recently been cracking down on such matters with regard to the sale of keys and have sent out orders to the dealers. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

You do know that the most common reason for fobs ceasing to work is that the battery is clapped out and it can be replaced with a new one costing only about £2.50 right? If you search the site for key fob battery there is a brilliant 'how to" . If you can handle a soldering iron it really is quite easy and represents a considerable saving. I do see that Keys would have to be covered by a security system, but If supplied the vin numbers car reg, paid by credit card to the owners name, then I don't see why an order could not be raised. the Key once delivered would still be in the care of the main dealer, and the vehicle would then still have to be presented for verification and to have the car programed to accept the new fob, once the details were confirmed, the key handed over, so no security breach's could occur. I was /am more miffed that this delay will mean it could be into Easter before I get full use of the car again, I find the bureaucratic delay has only resulted in a poor customer service.

as for the repair, the component has one leg missing, or rather still on the board, but has no identification lettering, so unless I can source another board, decommissioned, non working, with that component still attached, so I can salvage the faulty part the repair will most likely not be possible. has anyone got a damage fob, note that the key blade is not needed.

OK good to hear the you know about the battery change option. There are many guides on the forums of varying usefulness. The video posted by a particularly ham-fisted nitwit tearing the fob case apart with pliers gets the prize for being the most useless!

As you say, you should still have been able to email a copy of your V5 etc.

well I made the decision not to go and see hunters this morning but to look into getting the damage repaired, the damaged part turns out to be a zenner diode, so 150 of them has cost me nearly £4 with vat, the new battery £2.75 and a replacement aftermarket case £7, I have actually enjoyed the search, and if it works that £170 saving for effectively the same out come. thanks for the advice received guys. |

If your fob is working, but just the buttons missing/damaged, you should be able to transplant the innards to an eBay fob (a few quid) by following the guide Paddi linked to, above. |

The new case came from fleebay, it looks almost exactly the same as the original except for the LANDROVER logo, but on close inspection the buttons are smaller means you have to use all the parts supplied, the plastic is trick to glue, but it does look the part and it saved a fortune, |

The open button is temperamental sometimes works ok then will not work for about half hour then go back to it and works perfectly again. Could this be due to the battery? Is there anybody out there (preferably) West Midlands that can replace battery and casing, for a fee of course, wouldn't want to risk doing it myself and completely breaking the fob. Thanks in advance. |

Not wanting to get into a dealership wars, but I've been banned from hunters for arguing the toss over a scratched dashboard some years ago... Their service and attitude sucks
