Usual "starter for ten" is to check the intercooler hoses for splits. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Black smoke without the ESF is almost always a split in the intercooler hose or less likely a split in the intercooler itself. Bodsys Brake Bible

Thanks guys I've just been out to the car and found the split easy.. I don't know if it's the inter cooler hose but you might be able to help. It's at the front of the engine and goes of to left (drivers side) and is attached to a plastic thing with molded squares on it!!! ?? It's drops into the bottom of the engine can't see where it's attached down there, so must be a long hose????

I think that's the one that comes up from the intercooler - the box with squares on connects to the front of the electronic throttle and has the charge air temperature sensor in it (to measure the temp of the air coming from the intercooler). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
